hey guys...new to the forum bought a gibson sg std. off craigslist for a decent price. dude put in emg 81/85's in her and i mean, they're not bad, but i love the burstbuckers in my firebird. never really done any mods with emg's and the whole active pickup thing. how big a difference is there in the wiring setup with the tone/volume controls and input jack and all that compared to the standard gibson one? any good "how-to's" or anything out there? Thanks

gfg- Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2! As a life-long Blackhawks fan, I promise to not comment further on your username, nor will I mention last year's Stanley Cup . . . ;D ;D I'm a bit unclear on what you want here: So, you want to replace the EMGs with burstbuckers, and need to know how to convert active wiring to passive? Or, now you're keeping the EMGs and want to modify their wiring in some as-yet-unspecified manner? We'll need some specificity as to what you want to achieve before we can be of much help to you.

there are a few aftermarket active units by emg you can add to modify the sound and i'm glad to see stewmac.com is finally a distributor of them so i'd check those out before doing anything to it. if your just going to convert it to passive burst buckers you'll need to replace your 50k volume and tone pots for 500k pots. switch the stereo output jack for a mono, and just rewire like a normal sg, if you'd like i can post a diagram of a standard sg's wiring but first is it 2 vol, & 2 tone's like standard sg

hope this helps in your efforts but like newey said we don't have much to go on and your post does seem a little self contradictive, if your wanting to do some fancy modding just have a good look around GNUTS2 theres plenty or them from coil tapping to some really insane but cool stuff so have fun and look around awhile before you mod

It's not really necessary to change the jack, unless one has a need to use the stereo (TRS) jack elsewhere. Simply disconnecting the battery from the ring connection and wiring it mono-style will do just fine.

that's what i love about switchcraft jacks (even the mono ones): if you put a cable in, it ain't coming out by accident!
