Ok here goes,
take a DP6T rotary switch. # of Solder lugs 14, 2 are commons, 12 are position lugs 6 to each common. Now take side A & solder caps to each lug. Can be any value you want, but for rs lets say
pos1, .oo1uf pos2, .022uf pos3, .039uf pos4, .047uf pos5, .050uf pos6, .061uf
and side B
pos1, .076uf pos2, .089uf pos3, .091uf pos4, .100uf pos5, .122uf pos6, .139uf
jumper each common to its own tone level pot for lp styles, or for the stratavarious amung us wire them to a dual concentric pot.

ran out of text space....
(DISCLAIMER)
Exactly 1/2 of the beforementioned values are only achieved by combining values, if you can do simple compound number addition you'll do just fine.
And l opted out of a bypass circuit for only one reason,,,,
"SOLO SWITCH". ;D

0h just thought of this,to aid in grounding that many caps all one has to do is glue in a small block of wood next to the switch and screw down a washer and ground the caps to it. 0r alternatively just put the washer on the threaded shaft of the switch. (theoretically it should act the same as grounding a cap to a pot as one would in a normal tone circuit.)

It's not really a varitone unless you add an inductor to ground after the caps. I use a Xicon audio transformer. It gives a midrange shelving effect that's perfect for guitar. Also adding a resistor (i.e. 47K) before the caps will enhance the shelving. 47K isn't a critical value, you can use any value suited to your ears

I have a cap selector in my tele, pretty useful for switching between pup combos. Used bypass,.005,.01,.02,.05,.1 and going to experiment with a 100kb tone pot, on the reasoning you have to roll the tone pot back anyway and 'step it down' to off
Could you work it into a JPLP style wiring to enhance the Broadbucking feature?
Have to agree with Bassxtreme, they need another name for a 'varitone' without an inductor

Could you work it into a JPLP style wiring to enhance the Broadbucking feature Um yeah (scratch's head) ls there a specific jimi page mod you want? He had several. But..... The way it is done right now ls for the les paul, but can be used in strat via stacked dual concentric pots. On the lp version all yod do is.....

My LP install instructions.
1st, Disconnect all pots, remove neck vol' pot. convert to master vol'.
2nd Move bridge tone pot to neck volume position.
3rd, lnstall the DP6T varitone next to m.vol'
lt should now be top row(m.vol'-varitone switch) bottom row(treble tone-bass tone) 4th, wire pup selector to m.vol', m.vol' to treble tone then jumper to bass tone.
5th, run jumpers from the DP6T's commons to their corresponding tone pots.
6th ground like normal run m.vol' and ground to output.
your done

There's 3 pots, a rotary, and ye ol' pup toggle. You can how ever replace said pots with push/pulls and coil split/tap, the broadbuckers which is basically all jimi's mods are. But i'd recommend either a bypass on the rotary, or make m.vol' a solo switch, using the tones as your coil split/tap switch's.

Now to the business about this whole inductor/resister thing, Using a DP6T rotary where on the switch would l add those to???
