so i've had the first set of humbuckers i ever bought sitting around for a couple of years now... they're a set of dragonfire white screamers (which have artec on the bottom of the bobbins) wound to like 17k with ceramic magnets that soun.ded way too harsh anyway i figure i'll take them apart (bridge is already in pieces on my bench), unwind them to say 8k or so, swap the magnets for some alnicos purchased off ebay, repot them, and probably have a dead pickup haha or maybe it'll sound okay and i'll ship them off to whoever wants them i need to stop starting new projects....

nah they were terrible i have no problem sending them to you when i'm done, though... but it'll probably be a couple of months since i'll have to unwind literally thousands of turns to go from 17k to 8k... good thing my bench is in my garage where i smoke cigarettes

l hear ya there. May l make a suggestion? Why not rig up a make shift pup winder/unwinder using a powerdrill. lt'll save time/cigarettes, and the exedrin migraine pills to boot.

i believe the powerdrill winds WAY too quickly for the super thin wire plus this is just to prove i can do it

l'd keep the excess and use it for future builds or repairs. As much as you'll be removing you should be able to wind several strat coils. Could prove to be usefull later on

Considering the average single coil pickup has between 4000' to 5000' of wire in them...and yours are significantly hotter...that could tally up to 5000'-8000' between both sides of the pickup...
If you'd have started them on a spool rewinder you might have saved the wire, but with the collection of copper wool you appear to be accumulating on your lap you can scrub any future use for that wire.
Take heart, if you melt it down and make a small ingot out of it you could easily score $1.50 to $2.50 down at the scrap yard...
But I think the ultimate use for all that wire is one kickass cat toy...

thats nearly a pack of cigs there, pending on whats cheap in florida. Now here the cheapest is santa fe 100's size cigarello's at $1.79 per pack of 20, in 6 different aromatic flavors. l like the peach ones myself. thats too bad about the whole useless thing though. About how much you want for them when your done???

i used to roll my own when funds were tighter, but it's camels only now... something i won't skimp on
i'm wondering if i could turn the girlfriend's turntable into a pickup winder?

Possibly. Yeah i've had my fair share of the roll your own, alot of those tobacco's are either to harsh or extremely bitter. So l tried pipe tobacco, best roll your own i've ever smoked. You could disassemble a cheap toy rc car and rig up one that way. lt'll only run ya about $5-$8 at the dollar general.
