I have grounded the cavity of my bass, everything was working fine, then I wasn't getting any volume. I noticed the pots or the input jack was making contact with the shielding tape somewhere. When I pull out the electronics i then get full volume. Can I wrap electrical tape over the shielding tape to prevent contact or can I wrap tape around the outside of the pots? Thanks.....

Welcome and congratulations on the shielding job.
The answer to your question(s) is yes. I once tried acrylic paint, but found that the switches causing the trouble would just scrape it away and go right on shorting out. The tape won't defeat the shielding action, if that's what you're worried about.

Thanks, I found the negative leg on the input jack was sticking out, so I bent it in and it is ok for now. Would you reccomend shielding tape or paint.? I have the tape in there now, but was thinking about removing it and painting with shield paint.

I would stick to the tape. The paint has its merits, but IMHO the copper shielding tape with the conductive adhesive is better....but opinions vary.

the tape was a bit tough to work with when i first started (especially when i discovered all the tiny slices on my fingers but now i can get it to work nicely and look pretty i like to rough sand before i shield so the tape has more to stick to than glossy paint

A pair of tweezers and a standard #2 pencil help eliminate a lot of the cuts.
The tweezers keep your fingers away from the edges of the strips while placing the foil and the #2 pencil eraser helps to separate the backing from the foil and to press the foil into the cavities.

You could also try plastic or rubber washers on the pots and jack to prevent a contact between them as well.

If I understand correctly the jack is the worst part to come into contact with shielding material, beside losing output an .33uf isolation cap between the jack and the common ground point will be rendered useless. As for pots and switches you'll get a ground loop which is'nt too much of an issue in an electric guitar circut but might raise noise levels so avoidable if you use single coils at least. I've been thinking these ground loops could be taken advantage of to reduce the wires going off the back of pots/switches letting the shielding tape do the job for a tidy-er cavity. That said better let the forums elders have their say about that last idea should it appeal to you.

What I found interesting was counting the number of people sleeping on the podium while the President was making is pitch. For me it was the fact that both Waldo and The Shrub were sitting pretty much the closest to Obama, not to mention that they were the only ones with a table holding something to drink. Poor lil' ol' Michelle had to make do with more-or-less second place (further back, no table, no drink, no blankie - she was definitely deprived). Affirmative action hard at work - ya gotta love it!
