Well, I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but I figured Theory and Technique would be the most relevant place...
A local guitar GOD just opened me up to a band out of the 80's, called the Suburbs. They are a Minneapolis based band, and released only 3 CD's. They had a decently big hit with "Rattle My Bones"
This song has really been annoying me. That beginning part is C, Em, Am, F. The arpeggiated part follows the same progression. However, about 15 seconds in, I completely lose track of the guitar under the keyboards. Now, I'm not asking for a spoon feeding. I'm just sharing my frustration about something that sounded pretty straight forward, and turned out not to be.
Purpose 2 of this thread: anybody want to share your memories of either this band, or your own local bands that kinda took off, but kinda didn't?

I remember the Suburbs! I never actually saw them or anything, but I remember their propaganda - fliers, t-shirts, and that logo - from back in the day.
If you're talking about that "chorus" and solo section, it really sounds like they're just hanging onto that one chord. Can't name the specific chord right now, but it's just the one.
As for "local boys", the biggest band from Duluth in my generation is Low. I hate to overstate, but my contribution to their success was not exactly negligible. I motivated and taught their original bassist to play (he was the original bassist for Lorenzo's Tractor, Wiki it) and gave him a bass, ran their first show, produced the demo that got them their first recording deal, drove them (in my mom's car) to New York to record the first half of their first album, and was basically their sound tech for the first year or so.
Unfortunately, they play their hometown here only rarely. I've seen them twice in the 5 years I've been back. I get to see Retribution Gospel Choir a bit more often.

I, for one, was in all of the bands that never took off. I stand on an unbroken record for that one... While they weren't from my hometown, specifically, when I was living in Columbia, SC, Hootie and the Blowfish took off. I was working at WARQ at the time and Hootie used to play Rockerfellas all the time. Since I started out working midnights all I did was flog their EP Koochypop. When I moved to 7-12 they would periodically drop by the station to flog the EP or their show. While I was never a big fan, I was always impressed with Darius Rucker's voice. And I was happy they got signed to Atlantic for Cracked Rear View. I'm always happy to see anyone get over the fence. And no clue on the Suburbs song. Happy Trails Cynical One
