The guitar is 70 pounds, but your wallet will be lighter by an equal amount after you spend the 25K to buy it. So it'll all even out in the end. ;D

I personally wonder how long that is going to stay on the Bay. I doubt anyone will buy that for 25 large. I also wonder how much the seller bought it for? Interesting...anyone know if this is the only one?

According to the blurb in the listing, it's the only one, was supposedly built as a display model for NAMM.

It was/is the only one. Ibanez was getting pretty tired of all the "sustain" arguments at the time, and decided to 'put paid' to the whole conversation. I believe they succeeded, in no small style. ;D
As it is, I'm surprised it's up for sale - sumbudy must be hurtin'..... I'm also surprised that the same guys from Guitar Center as what bought Eric Clapton's Blackie haven't snapped up this one-of-a-kind thing.... After all, they paid what, 40 times more for EC's standard run-of-the-mill Strat!

The seller has had this thing up for "auction" since September 26th, and in the intervening time, has had only 11 offers, all of which were either declined or allowed to expire.
I remember the buzz going on back then about this axe. Basically, as I understood the story, Ibanez was tired of hearing all the hyperbola about sustain, and decided to put an end to that particular argument. Supposedly the thing is still ringing from the last time it was strummed, towards the end of the show!
I think they succeeded admirably, don't you? ;D
I suspect that it will come down in price before actually being sold.... probably by enough to make the seller cry.

Speculating on one off instruments is generally a fool's game. Trade show and gifted instruments to famous musicians are normally worth no more then the more pedestrian versions of their ilk.
And any instrument that has serious collector's value will rarely if ever show its face on eBay.
I am constantly amused by these little surfacings.
I hope this guy wasn't betting the farm on this thing selling for more then around $4,000.00.
If he does manage to get his pie in the sky price I'll have to find out who bought it...as I have some prime ski property in Nebraska I've been looking to unload...

c1,
Check out the seller's profile.... I dunno about you, but I keep getting the impression that P. T. Barnum has yet to leave the building.....

Hmmm, that's suspicious.... the specs didn't list nut material. Probably plastic.

And with the ebony fingerboard the Feds will probably invoke the Lacey Act and confiscate the guitar in shipment...but they'll let you keep the brass and plastic nut...
As of a couple of weeks ago the price was $2.11 US per pound. So, doing a rough SWAG, the body and neck are approximately 425 in3, or around 6964.5 cm3. The standard accepted trading weight for brass is 8.47 grams / cm3.
Running the numbers out, this puts the guitar, if it is truly sold, which is doubtful, at approximately 129.85 pounds, or 58.9 kg.
So, scrap value for this guitar is right around $273.98 USD, or 204.59 EUR, or 175.66 GBP. Which is right around 1% of its asking price...so I guess the novelty is worth $24725.97 USD...
