Hey Folks,
Looking into the Mackie Onyx series mixing boards. I have found some used 1620's and 1620i's that are in my price range. Here's the question. What's the difference? Are some of these people just leaving the "i" off of the model?

I'm pretty sure its that the 'i' has the firewire built in. There might be other advantages to the i relating to the firewire, but that is the main diff that I know of. This all comes into play if youre going to do DAW recording with it. Just as a mixer, go with the cheaper. I have the 1640i, which I love and record to DAW with. It has all the capability you'd ever need to record live and/or tracked rock band. Highly recomended.

I had seen that the 1620 doesn't come with a firewire card, but the one I found for sale has the card installed. I think retread has the plan with the manuals. I'll have to get into those today then. Thanks guys, really appreciate the help.

Another thing is to check if your computer has a firewire port. If not, the cards are pretty cheap at around $15.00 to $25.00 depending in where you go. Drops right into an empty PCI slot.

another thing is that I had to revert to vista, from 7, to get the 1640i to work well.

That's odd, JFP, as W7 tends to be a bit more device friendly then Vista was. 32 bit or 64 bit OS?
Did you try and remove the device, then reinstall the drivers?
I have to say, after working with W7 for a living I'm looking much more seriously at Linux, and 64 Studio to be more specific. Granted, it's music specific, but what else do I do with the computer anymore...aside from coming here...

i think my 7 was 64b and the vista is 32. In 7, i had lots of clicks and pops. And yeah, I tried various reinstall, remove, reboot, etc etc. In V32, I dont have any problems, as long as i turn on the Mackie first, then the puter, it works fine.
