I've seen a lot of links to the wiring diagram for the Roland board behind the fender VG1 But fender has changed the site and doesn't list the pdf on it's new site.
Does anyone have the service manual for the Fender VG and can they send me a link or the file.
cheers.
Great board, this is my first post but I've been reading for a while now.

C&L-
Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!
I don't recall seeing a diagram for the VG here, and you're right, I came up bupkis on a quick search.
I suspect Fender deleted the .pdf of the service manual so that Nutz like us wouldn't be tempted to go rooting around in there. I also suspect that the manual would have treated the Roland stuff as a proprietary "black box", simply showing the wires to/from the Roland module.
Our admin sumgai is the Roland mahven around here, if anyone can provide you the info, he can. He'll be around in a bit, I'm sure.
Also, perhaps if you told us what you are planning to do to your VG, we could set you on the right track.

Hi Newey
Thanks, I opened up the back of the VG in hopes of disabling the blue tazer on the guitar. Because I was tired of explaining why I had a black pick jammed under my volume and tone knobs. If you're not familiar, the VG has a bright blue light that tells you when it's drained the 4 AA's it uses for the roland setup.
I found they had color coded the wire with a blue header, so I took the chance and unplugged the wire and the setup still works fine.
I was curious about the extra unused ports on the back of the roland board, Not sure if you've seen the vg opened up? Beside what is probably the pickup string of wires there is a long plug of about 12-16 pins and along the other side where the control wires run to, (tone, led, switch etc) there is an unused 2 pin location.
Wondering if someone has looking into these unused pins and their widening the range of the setup?

I've never had my hands on a VG, much less opened one up.
Just because there's unused pins doesn't necessarily mean they will do anything to expand the capabilities. The COSM modelling is (presumably) all in the software. Roland may well use the "brain" of this thing for other products, and the unused pins could simply be for other uses of the same module in other products.

Yes thanks I understand that completely and assumed the same.
Just poking the fire to see if anyone had hacked into the possibilities. I'm not the type of person to shy away from modding something I own. half the things I own are modded, if even just to remove an annoying led or phantom power draw.
thanks for your time, hopefully someone will pipe up if they have some light to shed on the hardware/software mods possible with the board in this great guitar.
why mod it if it's already great? Because things get better when you put time back into them.

c&l, You'll be wanting to trot on over to www.vguitarforums.com, they've got a boatload of knowledgable people who are more likely to have "beat us to the punch" on this VG thing. Sorry, that's the best I can offer. HTH sumgai
