Ok first: GFS is too short of a term to search in this forum. Second: I thought I wired in 500K pots, but in reality, they are 250K After getting my now white Squier/Jay Turser setup, I remembered why I had the two single coils sitting in a drawer for years. They sound alright, but a little too thin, "spacy", and low out put for my liking. They're around 5.5K each and have ceramic magnets. I also realized that I never had an alnico single coil. I'm not looking for the holy grail, but something that I can consider a good starter pup and work from there. I would prefer a darker and louder output over a brighter and quieter one, but my main goal is volume, to balance with an MMK-45 (this may end up being replaced also, see below). With the single coils, I spend most my time in the 4th position of the 5 way (both on in parallel) and monkeying around with bad covers of Hendrix (Hey Joe) or just the neck on GnR(sweet child o mine) or Nirvana(All Apologies). Nothing really too elaborate, and like I said, i'm not looking for 'the' tone. But I do want that "quack". I figured I might as well jump on the GFS bandwagon, but the pickup descriptions on the site is not the best. I'm thinking these: www.guitarfetish.com/84K-Alnico-Boutique-Overwound-Strat-Pickup_p_4264.htmlwww.guitarfetish.com/87K-Alnico-Boutique-Overwound-Strat-Pickup_p_4265.htmlThey're cheap and overwound.. might be good, might be mud. I might order these two in a few weeks, and while i'm at it switch to 500K's to try to fix the MMk-45 The MMk-45, to me, sounds identical to my Super Distortion when I have the volume on 8. It just doesn't have the 'umph' or dynamics in it, but the tone or timber is the same. Opinions? Cripes, I could just ebay the MMK-45 and that will pay for it all: westone.netboarder.com/t2958-matched-set-of-mmk45-s-from-one-of-corsair-s-favswww.ebay.ca/itm/Flavorful-Matsumoku-MMK-45-Pickup-/140538630107?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item20b8c14fdb#ht_1873wt_1270

marty, At least on the Front Page, there should be a box at the bottom for searching this site with Google - do you see that, or do I have to make adjustments? (Others have already reported that they do see it.) Google doesn't have a silly 4 characther minimum, nor does it care about how far back in time you might want/need to look - it just gets it all! ;D HTH sumgai

Using a google search may help, however I do not see a google search. Off how others do. However, using my uber haxxor skillz, I did this: EDIT: I deleted the link because it was badly mangled by ProBoards. Instead, try this:Real Google link to GFS, on our Board(/edit)Homework for after work. Thanks, (EDITed by sumgai, because of the bad link.)

I don't see it anywhere, but I do run Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock Plus...which means I can conceivably miss quite a few scripted things on websites. A price I am willing to pay.

I just realized that I don't see it either. What I thought was a link to this at the bottom of the page, was just a link to a pop-up version of the proboards search.

Hmmm, looks like a visit to the ProBoards Support is in the works.... It worked for me when I first turned it on, but now I also get bupkis. BTW, Marty, this was the first time I've ever seen a text in a post cause the browser to go ballistic, and cause horizontal scrolling. I fixed that, of course. sumgai

Thank you sir. I am on a high resolution and don't notice those things as easily.
Google pro-tip: in a search engine, if you type(without quotations) "site:mysite.com what I am searching for" it will limit the results to mysite.com. If it's indexed, you get even more results!

Alright, so after some reading, it seems the PAF style ones are well liked. Any other is considered better quality than other pickups in the same price range, but you are still getting a $30 pup.
I think i will pull the trigger on some single coils in the future. Probably the $20 overwound ones. If I find them too muddy, then I can try to knock off a K ohm or two and not feel bad when I break the pup instead.
First is a BYOC flanger though.

The pickups you linked to in the OP don't mention whether they are available in RWRP versions.

So, I got the single coils mentioned above and a Crunchy PAT bridge humbucker. also some copper tape strips and 500k pots.
The neck single coil was closer to 7.8k than 8.4k. For $18, I guess there will be some sloppyness.
Cloth wires, wax potted. nice looking... I've never used AlNiCo single coils before, so I have no memory of what to compare them to. They sound "articulated" and "chimey" though. They seem really sensitive to any string movement too. Not as much of a quack in the 4th switch position as I would expect, but it's still there. They seemed to play along well with my amps and effects. Lower output than my MIM ceramic pickups though, but more than the cheap cheap ceramics I seem to be collecting on my parts shelf.
The Crunchy PAT sounds very close to a Super Distortion. Since I have a guitar with a Super Distortion, I did a quick side by side comparison. The PAT sound slightly more trebly, but that could be attributed to the different bridges and body woods of the guitars.
I'm pleased enough with them to possibly try different GFS pickups at some point in my life. Also, not bad for a $60 investment.

Me personally for a HSS strat id go with these in the neck and middle guitarfetish.3dcartstores.com/mobile/home.asp?#page-79Not really cocerned with the middle not being RW/RP that's just my personal taste though, besides the original strat was never RW/RP in the middle any ways. But I don't see why if one really wants it RW/RP that they couldn't just shoot an email or call requesting one. As far as the humbucker in the bridge id have to go with these, guitarfetish.3dcartstores.com/mobile/home.asp?#page-116 But as always that's just my taste. And for those of you who've actually read my posts , yes I would in fact use my discrete double barrel mod, along with a varitone and passive overdrive. Again just my particular taste in this particular setup.
