Hi
I noticed that several of the wiring diagrams for hooking up two pups to a PRS guitar and a 5-way rotary switch require that one of the pups needs to have the magnet flipped in order to have the correct polarity.
My question is: Is this true for installations that are using a different set of PRS pups?? I am installing an HFS/Vintage bass set as well as a traditional (no pcb) 5-way 4 pole rotary switch. I know you have to switch it for other brand names pups, however, since these are already PRS and came out of a Custom 24, am I to assume they are correctly setup to start with.
I have each pup's tuning coils facing outward (or closest to the neck and bridge)...with the non-tunable slugs on the inside.
When I place the pick-ups on top of each other (slug/tuning coil side to slug/tuning coil side), they attract each other....so the tuning coils on the bottom pup are attracted to the non-tunable slugs on the top pup on one side....and vice versa on the other side).
If that is correct, should I then install the pups like so:
................. Vintage Bass.........HFS Treble..........................
===neck=== coil ||| slug===== slug ||| coil==Bridge
Thank You
Tim

Hi Tim. Welcome back. It's been a while.
Dunno about the magnet polarity on the pickups from the Custom 24, but it should be easy enough to check. If the pickups are not installed, just put them face to face. If the screw coils attract each other, the magnet is flipped in one of them. If a screw coil on one attracts to the slug coil on the other, both pickups have their magnets installed in the same orientation.

Hi Tnx for the reply. I did what you said...place both pups together (coil/slug sides towards each other) and found out that the bottom pup slugs are repelling the top pup slugs and the bottom tuning coils are repelling the top pup coils....so according to all the howto's, I shall follow the stewmac info on flipping that magnet 180 degrees so that the slugs attract the slugs and the coils attract the coils Tnx for the info..... Tim UPDATE: That had to be the easiest thing yet so far....remove 3 screws from the bottom, a needle nose pliers to flip the magnet and re-assemble. Now both pups are attracting the same parts..coil to coil and slug to slug.
