Hi, I want to wire a strat I am building with a Vari-Coil tap ala the Fret King guitar.
I will either use a HSS config (HB will be SC size).
I have searched for a wiring diagram that will allow me to have a 5 way switch, 1 volume, 1 tone and a blend control that can blend the bridge pickup's coil tap with a turn (one way is both coils the other way is one coil). I haven't found anything, anyone have a diagram or any idea how I can achieve this?
Thanks!
Mark

mp70- We've had discussions on what people have dubbed the "spin-A-split". The thread I linked to is only one of several, youu can get more by using the search function and going back about 999 days, search for "spin-a-split" as a whole phrase. There are a couple of diagrams in that thread of variations on the concept. Yew has a diagram for a variable Broadbucker.

Hi MP40 Not that convinced about the splitting of SC sized HB's like rails as the coils are so narrow and closer together. Had to search myself for the wiring, but you could consider teh control I built into my HSS strat, or even the whole MR+ extras... The guitar in the gallery... guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=music&action=display&thread=5413So, looks 'stock' but there is now a master volume and tone and the middle control I called a spin/select and teh build thread with diagrams of this module is in this thread... guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=5401This works to 'spin out' one of the HB coils, the push pull function decides which of the coils is faded. with pot down, the coil closest to the bridge is faded out and this gives a slightly less biting SC with the full sized HB than a traditional stat and the one I prefer. This puts the volume and tone more in keeping with the single coils. However, pulling the switch it 'spins' to the bridge most coil for a much sharper biting kind of tone. I even added a little cap as I recall so that the 'spin' has a little bit of a different flavor to it... I think I got this idea from smitspickups.com...as that is where this non-push pull pic came from. The version I came up with is like so.. This is just the spin select kind of module which could be modified or inserted as you please controlling the HB and then on to the selector. I can report that it works really well, but as I say, it is a full sized HB and one that is renown for splitting well so can't vouch for how much difference a very small SC sized device is going to be worth it... hope that helps, there are more basic options of course...
