I just installed some of EMG's passive pickups that use their new quick connect system... www.emgpickups.com/products/category/231/101It got me thinking how nice it would be if all my pickups had this and i could change humbuckers around as easy as changing strings. Has anyone modded non EMG's to work with this system? I am not sure what type of connectors they use, where to get them and if there is a crimper tool. Anyone have any ideas?

Fortunately those are a reasonably standard electrical part, In the past I even considered getting some of these ( www.maplin.co.uk/battery-connectors-1397 ) to allow a faster change of pickups, by just soldering the ends to the pickup leads. Its would probably benefit from being in a shielded cavity as some parts will be unshielded. However It would allow a change of pickups with nothing but a screwdriver. If you can think of a mechanical system to attach the pickups then let us know. Maybe you could clip off the 'ears' of a humbucker, and use a standard pickup surround to ensure the pup stays in the right place, and attach a some iron into the back of the cavity, using the pickups own magnetisim to keep it attatched?

Ok here's something that might help. Consider that the quick connect funtions like a standard telephone jack would as you can see the similarities in the images below Phone chord pinout Emg quick connet They both work in the same manner they're just physically shaped differnt with one or two connections omitted in the quick connect. So yeah it could be done and done affordably but you'll have to go through abit of trial and error to get it funtioning properly and to have it not co cumbersome as we all know phone jacks can be. (well most of us anyway) Hope this helps SBG...
