I have an EMG 81/85 set in my Westone Spectrum guitar that I think may be faulty. When I try to play it through any solid-state amp, my Marshall MG250 or small practice amp, I just get a loud buzzing and absolutely no response in the strings. Touching the pickups will make the buzzing louder. The guitar works with my old Jansen 6/20 tube amp and also if I plug straight into the line-in on my computer, though the tone is dull and muted, and the tone/volume pots don't seem to do anything (it's as loud with the volume up as down). If I try to use any effects pedals, wah, distortion, whatever, I get the same total lack of response as with the solid state amp.. I though it might be a wiring issue and tried several different wiring configurations, even bought a new wiring kit and pots, but the problem still persists. What might the problem be? Is there any way to fix this, or are they screwed. Thanks in advance Yes, I have tried changing the battery

If it was just one pickup, I'd suspect the pickup. But since it's two, I'd suspect something in common. Since you already checked the battery, look for a problem in the wiring. Either the battery wiring or something in common between the two pickups, like the ground circuit.
