Brothers and sisters, I am glad to find you well after such a long time. (i saw cynical,4real are alive and kicking!) Well, its been a long since i broke my wrist and stopped playing, (4+months in cast, + rehabilitation, it took me almost one year), but it all went well, and ummmm i bought a new guitar to break even!! this is the lil beast : www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_page12.php?area_id=3&data_id=246&color=CL02&year=2012&cat_id=1&series_id=79This is equipped with with a EMG 81/60 set. First i'd like to say that this guitar is the sweetest i ever had. Also these are one of the most clean and sweet pups i ever had. So much clarity and sweetness! I bought the guitar for shred type of playing, drop tuning, etc... but I ended up playing blues and clean chords! It sounds just fantastic. Very full, very thick, fantastic. Also for jazz, for fusion, ethnic, etc.. it is just fantastic. I like the clean sound, with both the two pups selected (60 & 81) and the tone around 5. Now my problem. I also have a strat (cheapo partscaster) (the one which was the reason for subscribing here : it still plays fine!) with Dimarzio super distortion in the bridge, and it kinda outperforms the EMG81. At the same time, the Dimarzio super-distortion is by far weaker than an old seymour duncan live wire i have in an old kramer 210. The live wire (bridge) can distort the sound by it self. As a result on the kramer i have absolute legato-ready conditions for ultra fast licks. What i would like to do, is drive the EMG 81, stronger than the Dimarzio super distortion and on par with the live wire. I think that this would be possible with the EMG PA2. And now comes the question : Since i do not wanna drill new hole in a brand new 700 euros guitar, which as is plays fantastic already, so the mod is absolutely optional, could I just drive the PA2 via a push/pull switch? And that would mean that i could replace e.g. the tone 25K ohm with a push/pull tone pot+switch and drive the PA2 this way? So, i wanna keep my guitar exactly as is, and just replace the existing 25K ohm EMG pot with a 25k ohm push/pull pot, and drive the PA2 via the push/pull function? Is that possible? Am i missing something? IMHO this should be what the average guitarist would want, i.e. use the functions of the PA2 but with no drastic intrusive modifications to the instrument.

Or just to rephrase : can i cancel the on board drive a mini toggle 2-way switch of EMG-PA2 and drive the circuit via a plain old (25K ohm) push/pull pot?

Hey, pyrros, good to see you back haunting the halls again.
I wish I had something to offer, but my knowledge of EMG is just about nil...but I did want to say welcome back.
Happy Trails
Cynical One
