Hi,
I had a read through the 'Read Before Posting' thread, but apologies if I'm still misplacing things. I've linked to the images as they are quite large.
I acquired a dead Strat style guitar a few years ago from a neighbour who had skipped it when he was 'having a clear out', saying the guitar didn't work and I could have it for nothing. Since then it has lived in an old fender case in my cellar and very little has been done with it, though I'd always say I'd give it a clean up and see if I could get it working. The body looks like it has been sanded down and primed at some stage but never sprayed up.
The guitar itself is Strat shaped but with a 'pointy' headstock bearing a Mustang logo. The only thing I can think it might be is some kind of odd Sunn Mustang variant or copy of, but I don't know a lot about the history of the guitar and have since moved away from my now tidy neighbour.
Here's a picture of the Headstock and Logo if it helps identify the guitar:
Having got to a stage where my 2 year old now sleeps from 7pm to 6am I've found a bit more time and decided to crack on and try and do something with the guitar. I quickly strung it and plugged it into an amp to find that currently there is no output from the guitar at all. The only thing that seems to make any noise is the volume pot, which causes a very slight crackle when adjusted (possibly a loose connection?).
The guitar has a 5 way selector switch and 3 pots (2 tone, 1 volume).
I've now taken the strings off again as well as removing the pick-guard and disconnecting the wire to the jack, noting the colours and whether they were connected to the tip or case(sheethe?!).
I'm certainly no expert or guitar repairman, but I had a nosey at the wiring and think that the issue may lie with the connection between the 5 way selector and the volume pot that is, or rather should be, connected to it. Also while poking around it looks like there is some rust or corrosion on the components, but I don't know if this is anything out of the ordinary for older guitars or if it could be part of the problem.
Anyway, back to my theory.
This is an image of the pot (very brown??) with the three pick-up wires (2 blue, 1 red) connecting to it with what I believe to be earth connections. The 3 white wires emerging from the blue/red wires are currently not connected to anything.
Looking at the 5 way selector there are 3 points that have some solder on them but no wires connected, you see where I'm going with this I'm sure. Could it just be that the white wires simply need marrying up with the correct selector switch points?
Here's a slightly different angle if it offers any more information:
Apologies again if I've missed anything from the 'Read before' thread, hopefully this is just a quick soldering job, though looking at the wires I'm not sure how they ever stretched to the switch in the first place
Cheers,
Al
