Heres the situation: guitarist uses two 2 x 12 extension cabs from his Mesa boogie dual recto head. One he has up front, the other goes behind the drummer to act as a monitor so he can hear a bit more of the song chords from the guitar. I want to add a simple vol knob onto the drummers extn cab so he can back off the volume a bit. Is it possible using a simple passive circuit without damaging the amp?

Wait, what?
The guitarist is too loud for the drummer? Now I've seen it all!

Haaaa. the mesa is a seriously loud amp but when its off to the side and in front of the drums you can't hear much. Putting the extn cab about 12 inches away behind the drummer works a treat but he has to balance sound from this so he can hear a bit of my bass cab as well. Any ideas for a little circuit?

♭eric, Better would be to simply re-position the extension cab further away from the drummer's head. Beats messing around with tools and such. Seriously, what you want/need is called an L-pad. It's job is to abosrb some of the load, yet maintain a constant impedance for the amplifier's output stage. And right there, we know that we need to figure on handling all of the available power from the Mesa, or else we're gonna be asking that age-old question "what's that smell?" Ideally you'd check with Google for L-pads, like so: www.google.com/search?q=L-padLearn more about these things at the Wiki site, then shop around. Just be sure that the wattage rating is listed, and sufficient for your needs, or else you may find The Environmental Police knocking on your door! Good luck! HTH sumgai
