Good idea!
I've got a little guitar rig in the corner of my appartment, but I find that I mostly plug my guitar into my soundcard, and use guitar rig for effect and am modelling. I have a korg nanokontrol 2 midi controller I use to controll various parameters in guitar rig. It works perfectly and it fits in my laptop bag.
I've got a m-audio fasttrack pro soundcard, and a pair of m-audio bx5a studio monitors.
When I play live (mostly noise/ambient stuff, sometimes using a guitar) my signal line is typically guitar - hardware effects - computer based effects - house mixer.
I've recently ordered a teensy 2.0 usb controller wich can appear to the host system as an usb midi device. I'm going to use 7 SPST momentary stomp switches and an old volume pedal to make a foot controlled midi device.
