Not comfortable Grounding on top of pots!

Hello forum. Just wanted to ask if there is an alternate way of grounding humbucker wires, tremelo claw and output jack wore to the back of volume pots? Really, really not comfortable roughing up the metal and putting a glob of hot solder there. Can I combine all the ground wires, put a lug on them, and ground them to a brass screw and then to a shielded cavity wall? Please tell em the answer is yes......

As long as all the "ground" wires meet it doesn't really matter where. You can do what you've described, or use a washer or big enough ring terminal around the shaft of one of your pots. Most blade switches (strat/tele style) have a case ground lug which can sometimes be convenient.

I (almost) never solder to the backs of the pots, but then most of my guitars don't have pots...

Ty Ashcatlt. I finally started soldering on this HHH Project and burned out a test pot trying to practice. Just really not trying to burn anymore out. TY.

Perhaps it's just a case of choosing the right solder tip, candyflipper7 !

For these kind of jobs I use an old outworn tip. I filed it to get a real blunt tip. (First filed and then tinned the tip) You need a bit more "surface". Set the temperature somewhat higher. In my case I use an Ersa workstation set at 450 (degrees?) instead of 400. With some practice the job is doable, not hard at all.

As you can see stumpy has had better days.

Thankyou, I did end up attempting the ground on the back against my better judgement. I didn't burn out the pot Thank-God....But It looks like crap. Definatly a redo there soon. I will use your tip as I now have a used iron I can mod. Will be in touch!
