Hi guys, I want to ask for some assistance. Just FYI, I am technically challenged, although I feel comfortable with soldering and such.
I have a Strat that I put a Filtertron in the bridge, bascially a humbucker. Naturally, given the 250K pots in standard Strats, the bridge sounds a bit muddy. I had the idea to eliminate one of the tone pots, change it for a 500K and use it as an independent volume control for the bridge/humbucker poisition only, while the other volume pot controls the remaining two single coils.
Is this doable? If so, can someone draw me a quick diagram, with pictures. I am looking for the least complicated mod that uses preferable existing components.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello and welcome to GN2. For a Strat with two volume controls, have a look at this: guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=schem&action=display&thread=3157That scheme uses a dual gang tone pot, so the tone pots can be on the pickup side of the volume control, where they work best normally. You can use a single pot after the volume pot, read about 50's wiring for what this does - I dont like it myself but some do. Also, if you dont use the tone pot, its fine. But another approach, if you are not definate about having two volumes, and the main resaon is to take some load off the pickup, would be to change the tone pot to a no-load type. I use this is my HSS Strat. Also, my friend has a Gretsch with Filtertrons, and he was also getting a dull sound. We found the answer was to use a shorter guitar cord, 10' instead of 20'. If that goes into a pedal or something with an active buffer (ant Bpss pedal or sim), then you can have as long a lead as you like after that. John.

John, Thanks so much for your help. Actually, I did find your diagram when I did my research, but it seems like you are installing a treble bleed, no?
Also do I leave one vol pot at 250K and the other at 500k? The Filtertron came from another guitar loaded with 500K pots and it sounds fine, and so do the remaining single coils in the Strat, so I am pretty sure that the reason for it sounding a bit dull are the stock 250K pots in the Strat.

The treble bleed is optional and has no effect at full volume. I put them on all my designs but its a matter for choice
