Nut can be seen a bit better here. I had to shape the grooves (they were angled, narrow and shallow) using the actual strings as a DIY file, it worked ok. I still have to sand/clean/carve its look, but the guitar plays very nice already. If no objection, i m gonna slightly glue it then.

That graphite nut (Dimarzio for Gibson) fits pretty well as an almost-direct replacement of the original (Kahler) locking nut. Nut can be seen a bit better here. I had to shape the grooves (they were angled, narrow and shallow) Gibson nuts wont work on the strat. Different height (you had to file them so deep the strings were buried - a recipe for sitar sound and poor sustain), different angle (Gibsons have angled headstocks, strats have string trees or tension bars), etc... If i were you i'd get a nice Gotoh locking nut (the best on the market) and screw it down for life. If you insist on the graphite/bone/plastic/ebony whatever "vintage" nut (which IMHO is inappropriate in guitars with tremolos), then build a nut shelf with width, length and height similar to the starndard strat and get some strat nut in there : this does not have to be an expensive one. You might find equally i cheapo plastic one would give you amazing tone and sustain on open notes *if it was nicely and precisely cut*. Precision in nut slots are the epitome of good tone. But maybe a cheap plastic would be worn out faster .

Thanks for sharing thoughts Greekdude.
I indeed "forced" a bit against the shape of the grooves when filing, though so far the tuning is stable and the sound full (no sitar flavor).
In the meantime, i found some cheap graphite nuts from Strukture: they seem good enough, and better fitted for a strat (straight), so i might try one on it.

If Cyn1 was here, he would help. IMO building the nut shelf for strat dimensions (width) and getting a nicely cut strat nut would be the way to go. You won't believe it, i fitted an ultra el-cheapo nut in my strat, and is the only nut in any strat i've played that does not go out of tune when (ab)using the tremolo.

I've found the precut tusq Strat nut from StewMac to be an amazingly versitile and easy install. I've only had to shave/sand the bottom on them.

I've only had to shave/sand the bottom on them. that's the trick, always treat the base not the slots.
