This is a bass I had at my dads and recently brought to my house. Anyone know what kind it is? I got it at a Sears outlet store 25 or 30 years ago. The paint is exactly as I bought it but there are no marking anywhere. I mean none. Nothing on the pickups or on any of the covers, inside or out. Thoughts?
It's fairly generic, so nothing jumps out at me. Sometimes, opening up the innards will disclose a manufacturer, or there may be some markings underneath the neck, if it's a bolt-on.
Sears used to sell their own house brand, "Silvertone", back in the 1960s and 1970s, but I thought they had pretty much stopped the house brand by the '80's. I don't know what they were selling in the 1980s. There may be an enthusiast's website for Sears guitars somewhere . . .
I understand that the fact you got it out of a Sears outlet store doesn't make it a Sears guitar, but it's a logical assumption, as Sears always sold a house brand as far as I can recall.
I think Yamaha was the first to come out with a P-Bass type, but with rear access instead of a pickguard. They still make a few versions of basically the same guitar. But there have been a gazillion clones of that design since then, and your headstock doesn't strike me as a Yamaha.
