Hey guys, Just want to pop my head in the door and apologise for being slack! I got all the the parts and the gumption to do the wiring as shown in John's diagram a few weeks ago. I have to say it sounds bloody great! Powerful is the word, big and clean and balanced. I'll go back in another time and do the out of phase on the push/pull, but I think this is the ideal wiring for this guitar and consider it finished. I guess the form factor of the P90 is a stumbling block for many as far as putting one in a Strat, but I think it's a superior solution to HSS in many ways. This Kinman P90 makes the Lace Sensors sound noisy, and it stays very useable right back to very low settings on the volume control. The only thing I've "lost" is the really clean and quacky from bridge and middle combination, the P90 is just too powerful and midrangey for that. That position on the selector switch still yields a good usable sound, it's just more rock than funk if you know what I mean. And when you dial the neck and middle down in that position, the "burn" from the P90 goes up. It's quite novel and sounds "fusion-y". On the other hand, the sound from the P90 and the neck single coil combined is excellent, big and twangy. I ended up with .022 cap on the P90 and a .033 on the singles. This works well for me, I find I have to up the presence on my Marshall to get nice clean sounds. Dialing back the tone control on the guitar for dirty sounds cuts back the harshness of the extra presence without getting too muffled. Finally the Villex. It does work as I intended, meaning I can toggle it in and out to put the neck pickup more on a par with the wide open P90. It cuts a little too much bass for my liking, but when your soloing above the 12th fret it jumps out nicely. I would hardly consider it essential, but it does add a different colour to single note lines without the signal loss of outboard devices. Like having a little cocked wah on a switch inside your guitar. All in all, I now have a pretty darn flexible and powerful guitar, with all the detail and dynamics that single coils can offer. And I couldn't have done it without you guys. Thanks again

Hey guys, Just want to pop my head in the door and apologise for being slack! Well, it's OK this time, but don't let it happen again, or it'll be 20 lashes with a used guitar string! Please, feel free to post some sound samples in the appropriately named sub-Forum. (The third one from the bottom, on the front page of the NutzHouse.) Even better, but admittedly more pain than you might want to put in on the idea, is to make and post a video to YouTube. Such a thing may not be of the absolute best audio quality, but it still points out the constrast/differences between a stock and a modified axe, and that's what it's all about. And yer welcome! sumgai
