Ok, so I've been reading posts about all of you people doing different projects and trying new things with guitars you've got, and I had the idea that maybe we could all do a project together and post our results in this forum. Maybe we could all buy some kind of cheapo guitars and try installing and changing out different things together. Among the projects I can think of off the top of my head, we could rewire single coil pickups to make them less noisy, add extra switches, input onboard effects, change out the nut, tuners, bridge, saddle, pickups, pots, etc., maybe sand the frets? This is just an idea, but I think it might be cool to be able to post questions and results in the same thread and get input from others who are doing the same project. Sound interesting to anyone?
As far as a group project is concerned, I would only be up for it if the proposed mod offered something useful to me. About the only thing I can think of that is universally beneficial is the reduction of hum. Past that I think it mostly comes down to personal preference.
However, I've seen some of your other posts which mention making mods to pedals and I -would- be interested in seeing some more of that stuff here on the forum. I don't have any pedals, but everyone else I talk to raves about how essential they are to tone. I figured that with the collective genius of our fellow Nuts we could come up with some DIY stuff that focused on squeezing better tone from our guitars -without- having to disassemble them. That being said, I know that there are many pages on the net that offer this type of info, but I have yet to find any other forums relating to the subject. God knows I'd only trust you guys, anyway.
So, I guess what I'm saying is we already have tons of info on how to make your own boutique guitar, so why not some info on how to make your own boutique pedal. In fact, I'm surprised we don't already have it. I mean, I've modded all seven of my electrics to my satisfaction, but I've still got the itch to solder something, y'know?

I can't build a pedal from scratch, but the mods I've done so far are easily available (if you want to start one yourself). Here's my advice. Buy a TS-5 or TS-7 tubescreamer on eBay (they are extremely cheap) and then go to www.monteallums.com, click the "DIY Pedal Mods" menu on the left side, and purchase his mod kit. Make sure you buy the mod kit for the specific model of tubescreamer you buy. He also sells mods for the TS-9 and the TS-9X (the turbo). You can also mod (by Boss): BD-2, MT-2, DS-1, SD-1, OD-3, CS-3, and some others. As for noise reduction of hum, I would be much obliged if you could answer some questions I've got about modding my guitar...I'm going to start work on it soon.
