hey guitarnutz! short time lurking first time poster. really love the site and there seems to be a lot of knowledgable people here. i've been browsing for awhile trying to come up with a versatile wiring for my squire jazz master. i had decided on a deviation of the "super start" wiring seen here, www.1728.org/guitar2a.htm . i wanted the series parallel and phase switching but with a "PTB" master tone control ( guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/7172/bass-cut-ptb-system ) instead of the normal start v,t,t, shown in the diagram. i also wanted to retain the use of the rthym/lead circuit selector found stock on the jazz master ( www.guitardudeproducts.com/GDP/Fender_1962_Jazzmaster_Wiring_Diagram_and_Specs ). I've got the third pickup (GFS "gold foil" (p90)) and all the switches pots and caps i should need and having the diagrams for all these parts i compiled them in what seemed like a logical way but no luck. tried again, moving some thing around but still no go. getting frustrated with it now. so my question is: can anyone explain to me the proper way to combine all these different modules? I'd love to be able to make a single diagram of all these parts to follow and know that it makes sense and should work if followed correctly. thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if this is posted in the wrong place!

fox-
Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!. You posted this in the right place, no problems there.
This should be do-able. I don't have time to do a diagram just now, but basically what you will be doing is this:
1) The 3-way pickup selector switch on the JM will be eliminated, since the "Super Strat" switching will be controlling the pickup switching.
2) All of the wiring to the JM's rhythm/lead switch, including the separate V and T controls, remains "as is". Instead of the red wire from the left side of that switch going to the 3-way switch, it becomes the neck pickup "hot" wire and is wired as per the Super Strat scheme.
3) On the JM, since there is no series/parallel switching, both pickups' "ground" wires are permanently grounded. This has to change for the Super Strat's series/parallel switching. The grounds need to be switched for series/parallel, and thus need to be wired as per the SS diagram.
4) The wiring of the JM's master V and T controls will also be changed, so as to follow the PTB wiring diagram.
So, the best way forward is for you to draw up a diagram, as best you can, with the above in mind. Don't worry about making mistakes, we'll vet your diagram. But by drawing it, we'll have a starting point for discussions, and you'll better understand the workings.
But a caveat: It is one thing to do a diagram. It is another to physically fit it all into a particular guitar. Our member wolf, who runs the 1728.org site, shows the switching on a Tele from the front. What you don't see is the mass of "wire spaghetti" behind those switches. This is a very complex wiring already, and it was no mean trick for wolf to get it all into a Tele. You'll be adding to it even more.
If it were me, I'd be double-checking the cavity to be sure you can fit this all in. I would be making up a template the size of the cavity out of cardboard to "test-fit" all of the switches, etc. Remember too that wiring takes up space, and wires need a bit of slack to avoid stretching solder joints. Plan accordingly.

thanks for replying! i understand the controls will change and i've got all the necessary switches pots and caps. i will leave the rhythm circuit as is. i've tried this a couple of times with slight changes to the wiring but am yet to hit the mark. i'm a little unsure of my soldering skills so knowing that i have the right idea for the wiring would help a lot as far as trial and error goes. i did my best to draw up how i figure the wiring should be but I'm afraid it isn't very pretty and may be hard to follow. i'll try to make a version that's easier to look at if i can get the time. I've drawn all the pots and switches as viewed from back, the series/parallel and phase switches are perpendicular to the pickup on/off switches as this is how i've mounted it on the pickgaurd. i hope i've inserted the image successfully. the switches and pots are not all labelled but i think it is apparent what's what. i've drawn in the ground connections as well. sorry again it's not very pretty looking. I really appreciate the help!
