logical 7 tone strat by way of blend pot

How about this use for a blend pot:

in position three on the five-way, the blend pot (a dual type with center detent) blends from Middle pup alone (pot at '0') to Neck & Bridge in parallel (pot at '10'). This way when the pot is at '5' all three pups are together.

1.N
2.N+M
3.M --> turn pot up slowly --> N+M+B --> turn pot more --> N+B
4.M+B
5.B

This gives you the magnificent 7 while still being logical (position three on 5-way = M or N+M+B or N+B)

It should work, right?

Anyone have the know-how to make this work? I cant draw schematics to save my life...

nice idea, but i don't think you'll find a clean way of implementing it, with just a pot.

on the other hand, JohnH has come up with some pretty amazing stuff.

(he may be able to come up with something similar, but unless additional switches are added, i can't imagine how even John would make that work as you described.)

I suggest dumping the 2nd tone pot, and having just a master volume and tone. Where the3 pot went, put in a simple on/off switch, and wire the neck and bridge inputs from the 5 way switch, to the poles on the on/off switch. in the off position, it's a standard 5 way. On, it's n+b, n+m+b, b, n+m+b, n+b. really quite usefull. Basically, that's Fenders "S1" switch.

alright then, this starts to make some sense.

in the sequence you described above, i think you meant to say: n+b, n+m+b, m, n+m+b, n+b.?

the second tone wouldn't necessarily have to be dumped. it could be a push-pull. the switch part could be used to connect the neck and bridge together.

OR

the connections from the neck and bridge would go to the poles of the switch.

one set of throws connect to the normal positions on the 5-way.

the other pair of throws would be connected to one end of a blend pot.

the neck pickup would be connected to the other end of the blend pot, and the middle goes to the 5-way.

but this means that you would HAVE to be in position 2,3,or4 of the 5-way to get any sound when the P-P is pulled.

and what happens when it's not pulled, but the blend pot is rotated toward the N+B end?

maybe "Blend-Master" John might weigh in on this, or some better strategy.
