this PG member (AG...) went ahead and drilled oout the slugs of a humbucker... Slick! I wonder if there's any (noticeable) deleterious effect from reducing the mass of the slugs. Definitely "outside the box" thinking, though.

personally i think it might be fun to do that sort of number on a beater just for shock value. but, i don't think i'd violate a good player with it.
i'm not sure it's wise to give some of the folks out there too many ideas.
the next thing you know they'll be wanting to do
[glow=blue,5,300] N E O N ! [/glow]
and before anyone asks:
NO, DON"T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT !
I MEAN IT!
I'M SERIOUS AS A HEART ATTACK!

[glow=blue,2,300]LOL[/glow]....could be some noise issues you think?? Maybe some power problems too... hmmmm Actually, my sustainer guitar has a 5mm LED in a reflecting bezel that throws off quite a bit of light. When protoyping the thing, if you aimed the light across the white pickguard you get quite an effective glow. As it is I noticed in the dark it will send a focused beam of blue light clear across a room... But it's simply an on indicator I swear...

i have a close friend, bassist who had a custom koa bass made.
the brass pickguard was polished like a mirror. when the lights hit it, it would blind people as he moved about.
he tells me he wasn't aiming at anyone, but i'm not sure that was always true.
it would almost knock you down if he was illuminated with a par64. if he was ever had a super-trouper aimed at him, and the reflection of his pickguard hit you, well i don't even want to guess what that would be like.
as far as the neon issue goes, my biggest worry about that is the high voltages required to trigger neon tubes, and the possibility of DEATH by ELECTROCUTION
