Hi there!
I was wondering if lining a Strat's pickup cover with adhesive copper/aluminum foil would have a significant shielding effect. If space allows: could i shape the tone with a thick layer of foil on top (around the magnets)?
Any experience with this?

Experience? No. Shape the tone? Blob-shaped maybe. idk.

mh,
Yes, we've discussed this before. I don't have the link (anymore), but the short answer for you is, don't bother.
The first reason is, only part of the coil sticks above the pickguard* anyways, so the results are not much of a reduction of noise/humming/buzzing/etc. The second reason is this: forming a complete "shield" around the coil will indeed change the tonal characteristics. This is mostly because the inductance of the coil has changed - dramatically, but it also has to do with the re-shaping of the magnetic field.
For additional info, covered in much more depth than the old threads, take a look at antigua's new sub-Forum. Many postings in there will give you both a good overview and a detailed understanding of why this idea doesn't pay off.

* Which presumably you have already shielded, yes?
