I've been informed by Dr.-Ing Tilmann Zwicker that their "English" section of the Gitek Forum website is now officially launched: gitec-forum.de/wp/en/ The site is primarily German, as most all of their participants are German, and in Germany. The group is largely based around Manfred Zollner, a professor at a German university, who has authored well over a thousand pages on the physics of the electric guitar, with a good amount of that being related to guitar pickups, but also the physics of the string, the body, and even guitar amplifiers. In addition to hosting Manfred Zollner's work, they have written their own articles as well. Where as much the English speaking guitar world focuses more on the psycho-acoustic representation of guitar pickups, or how they sound, their approach places a greater emphasis on how these things work, from a scientific and physical standpoint. They had made some efforts to find a translator who might translate the material to English, but due to the highly technical nature of the material, it's not as simple as translating every day speak, and so a translator was never found. Instead they have decided to translate sections themselves, as time permits. The drawback there is that their English is not 100%, so the translations are not 100%. However, having mostly translated the text, it's very easy to follow, and it's now possible for an proficient English speaker with an awareness of physics to correct any minor mistakes, if they're so inclined. In addition to information about the physics of guitar, there is also quite a lot of historic research interspersed, with references cited. Manfred Zollner and the Gitec members also bring an uncommon degree of levity to the subject matter. Manfred Zollner's investigation into guitar pickups starts here gitec-forum.de/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/PotEG-5.1-Singlecoil-PUs.pdf It's a quick but deep read, and any electric guitarist looking to swap their pickups will be far better informed after having taken the time to go through it. If humbuckers are your thing, be sure the check out the next chapter gitec-forum.de/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/PotEG-5.2-Humbucking-PUs.pdf which covers humbuckers with an equal amount of depth. Subsequent chapters listed here gitec-forum.de/wp/en/gitec-knowledge-base/knowledge-base-de-article/ cover an amazing range of subject matter relating to pickups, from general information about stacked humbuckers and less common brands of guitar pickup, all the way to arcane matters of physics. Please check out their site if and when you have the chance.
