fenleo,
i haven't completely checked your work, but i think on first examination your anaylsis is
almost correct.
your drawings were clear, (just a bit too big for my laptop screen, though) and easy to read.
nice work.as you can see, DE's description of the positions on the 5-way are wrong, as well as which coils are being enabled.
but on the plus side, using an north coil from one HB and a south coil from the other (in-phase) is hum-cancelling, that's a good thing.
probably, if one of the pickups is rotated 180 degrees, the inner/outer descriptions will be okay.
having the series position at 2 rather than 3 is not what was described, but that's not a fatal error.
i'm fairly confident that
all of the combinations are
in-phase.to keep track of phase:
- i like to draw the north coils with the black on top, and the white on the bottom.
- i draw the south with red on top and green on the bottom.
- then when you draw the connections, it is easier to keep track of phase.
so while things aren't as described, it looks like they aren't all that bad.
what i dislike about this circuit, is that it shunts coils AND leaves unterminated coils hanging from the output. very often it's necessary to do one or the other, but at least
one can usually be avoided.

EDIT:i've added a pointer on the original thread to this one.
BTW: the drawing you made is far superior to that one on deaf-eddie.net
i've made some maps of the configurations starting from your page 2. (i also cropped it down a bit.)
i think it might be a little clearer this way.
i won't swear to the accuracy, but i'm 90% sure.
hopefully one of our other members will be able to verify, or locate any mistake(s)
i do like the way you numbered the coils, rather than using descriptions like "neck south coil". much easier to keep track of things that way.
if you are going to use this wiring layout, i have a few suggestions for you.
1 - DO rotate one of the HBs 180 degrees. it will make a bigger difference in the sound, changing the distance, rather than shifting closer and farther from the bridge IMHO.
2 - after you have lived with it a while, you may want to "trade-in" one of the parallel selections.
i was looking to see if you could do 2 norths OR 2 souths out-of-phase, either series or parallel (that WOULD be hum-cancelling), but, it doesn't lend itself to this basic design.
what will fit, would be BOTH HBs,
either as a 4 coil series (probably a way different sound than any of the present selections,
or neck HB(series pair) in parallel with bridge HB(series pair).
you might even tie the mid-points of the coils together with a SPST switch when both HBs are in parallel for a 6th choice, although i can't say just how much difference that would make. maybe a little, maybe lots.
all 4 coils would probably be the "money sound", parallel for pretty chords, series for "dark and mean"
in any case i think this thing does work, but not exactly as described. a new description would be in order.
or a few wiring changes AND a pickup re-orientation to make it work as described.
GOOD LUCK
