Hi, I'm new to these boards. I found a pair of emg 707 tw's with 2 push pull pots and a tone but can only find solder less wiring on a web search. Does anyone have a diagram or a link to soldering these ?
Thanks for any replies.

Hello Al and Welcome to GuitarNutz2. I'm posting so you won't think you're being ignored, but I haven't seen any wiring diagrams for those. I've seen DIY wiring diagrams for simpler 3-wire EMGs and those are easy to figure out. Also, many of the EMG pickups with 3wire connectors existed before EMG created the solderless system. The 707TWs are more complicated with a 7pin connector to the pickup itself and three 2pin connectors and a 1-pin battery connection at the other end of the cable.
Maybe someone else might have some experience with these and chime in. Also, the 81TW and 89 have 7pin connectors so perhaps if you find DIY wiring for either of those, it might apply.

al,
Welcome to The NutzHouse!
Can you link us to the diagrams you're finding, the ones with solderless connectors?
And for what it's worth, one of the pair connectors is for power, the single is for ground, and the remaining two pairs are for each coil. However, being as these coils are very low impedance, I'm not so sure that a multimeter will tell you which one is which. This would be most safely handled with an EMG diagram that shows colors as well as connection points. Even if they're solderless, that will tell us all we need to know.
Next up... did you have anything special in mind to hook all this up, or were you just wanting the pinouts for each of the connectors?

al- You'll have to bear with us, we're going to have a lot of questions before we can get you to any sort of a diagram. First off, are the push/pull pots from the same guitar that the EMGs came out of? Active pickups need different values for their pots than passive pickups use, so if these came out of a different guitar, they are likely not a value you'd want to use with active pickups. If you have a multimeter, you can easily check them to see. Second, the pots seem to have blobs of solder attached, telling me they are used. Even if they are the correct values, you'll want to be sure they still operate correctly before using them- both the pot portions and the switch portions should be tested. If you have a multimeter, you can easily test the components to be sure before you wire things up. Did I mention it would be a good idea to have a multimeter?

Assuming as SG has noted that they are the correct values for low impedance pick ups, one of those pots- the one marked "V" has a capacitor attached. Another switched pot has a capacitor attached. This implies two tone controls and kind of suggests to me that if those components came from the same guitar as the EMGs then one additional pot is missing? Strange that the "V" pot has a capacitor attached to a lug and not the chassis. I think this may be just a handful of likely-looking components thrown in with the EMGs for good measure?

Google searches for EMG wiring have been rather fruitful. This PDF shows EMG's schematic for their solderless pot w/Push-Pull www.emgpickups.com/media/productfile/b/1/b136re_ppp_0230-0269ra.pdfFrom that we can determine: #3 plug with Orange and Shield carries the signal from the coil that's used in both modes. #2 plug with Yellow and Blue are return path for that signal to enter either the HB preamp or SC preamp. #1 plug with Green and White are the HB output and SC output. This image shows a hardwired push-pull top side is the returns to preamps bottom side is preamp outputs this particular wiring feeds the preamp output to the wiper of the volume control the bottom lug or the volume control (with no wire shown connected) is the output. I also found this: www.sonic.net/~emgman/wiringbook.htmlThere are many EMG wiring diagrams pre-solderless. The ones for the 89 will apply to the 707TW

Thanks for all the replies. The pots are all 25K but in the end I found a good deal on the real deal solderless EMG pots from the US so I've ordered those. Should save me a lot of grief.
