Welcome to our celebration! In honor of our 13th Anniversary, GuitarNutz is having a party and everyone is invited. There aren't many rules but there are a few ... 1 - Be excellent to each other. We're letting our hair down here but that doesn't mean anything goes. Abusive posts will be deleted. Posts which violate the ProBoards ToS will be deleted and IP bans will be issued.. 2 - Don't quote or even reply to improper posts. Just click the gear thingy and report the post. 3 - Have fun. Good clean fun. Keep it PG-13 or cleaner. Silly and frivolous is just fine. Leave your buttoned-down collar and tie at home. T-shirts and sandals are worn here. 4 - Chat it up. This is a party, so enjoy yourselves. Regular GuitarNutz business is best served on the appropriate boards, though. 5 - Guests are not only allowed to participate in this thread, but they're encouraged to do so. Are you a member of another forum? Want to drop a link to your home forum? No problem! Do you have comments about what you like or dislike about GuitarNuts2? Feel free to post here. Guest posting is for a limited time only.

Nothing gets a party going like a good prank . . . or three.

Happy anniversary Guitar Nutz, and all those who run this place!
I can't say I've ever really contributed, as my knowledge of this stuff is very basic, but I've always really appreciated the help that people on here have given me in the past (and I hope in the future too).
Thank you!

I can't say I've ever really contributed Sure you can. Participation is one way to contribute and you've done that. We've enjoyed your visits in the past and look forward to seeing you again. It doesn't always need to be help related. If you see something in the news or during your net-surfing which you think might be worth discussing, you can start a thread in the Coffee Shop regarding just about anything. We tend to shy away from Religion and Politics but topics don't always need to involve guitars or even music. You can even just post pics of your favorite places to chill. Or soundclips of the indigenous population.

Good day, everyone! Last year I had a request to build a custom P-bass... All Chrome. Thought I'd post a pic and see what you guys think...

Ooooh ... SHINY! It looks like a nice build but I really can't say for sure. The solar flares make it difficult to even see the shape of the headstock. That would be downright dangerous under stage lights. The good news is, there's plenty of overstock from last summer's eclipse.

Here's a (only slightly) less glaring photo... The entire body, neck, fretboard, headstock, etc was covered in "chrome" vinyl wrap - the kind used to wrap vehicles. The pickguard is mirror. The wrap is the "good stuff" made by Avery. The bass is a simple P bass kit from Guitar Fetish ($110). Per the owner, the fretboard was scalloped. I did the "Blackmore technique" whereby its more scalloped on the first string side than on the fourth string side until the 12th fret, then its fully scalloped on up... I've heard of fretless basses, but never a scalloped bass!?!? I really hated wrapping that thing. Its quite a trick to get the vinyl to lay flat around tight bends and such. I'll never do it again. But it did come out pretty good, and very playable. I question how well it will wear...

Here's a (only slightly) less glaring photo... I'd rate that as significantly less glaring. In the first pic, one of the headstock points looked round. As in glass mirror, or first-surface polished metal? Yeah, I think you're in some new territory with that one. Cool stuff. I noticed the pickup array. I always thought doubling up the P-bass set might be interesting. I reckon the bridge pickup might sound a bit odd all by itself, particularly on the lower strings. But maybe used together that might make for a very nice sound. Seems like anything with that much chrome really should have some Dagmars.

One more pic, then I'll move on... The pickguard is (plexi)glass mirror. You can see the difference in reflections between the pickguard and the body of the bass. In this pic you can also make out the scallops. I had forgotten that the owner also asked for double pickups. I routed the body below the pickguard and added a mini toggle. Top two, both, bottom two. The person in this pic is the owner, not me.

A simple post of Fanx! to all the folks who frequent this true community of friends.
A flurry of activity from me when I was goin' crazy on working-out the guitar sounds I like from an electronics point of view... and through the quieter, more recent times, when my eyes had been changing (mainly from age).. and while my Dad had been struggling more (until his ultimate demise this March - which has been knocking me about majorly)... the friendly and more than helpful people here have been a great group to come to know...
...and I can only hope the little bit of knowledge and experience I have of music, electronics and technology that I've been able to pass on has been as equally useful.
Here's hoping the NutzHouse continues to flourish... and that we all keep learning and extending what we all can do with our music through the use and development of the wonderful instrument that is the guitar.
Always thankful for everyone here...
John

I'm approaching my 11th anni on this board. I put the info on Mr. Atchley's (Peace be upon him) site to use sometime in 2004 to quiet my beasties. Soon after I had to pull the motor and rebuild the top end for this beast, a '75 VW Bus:
Well that lasted about 5 years until I ran it low on oil and broke the cam. Started buying parts then and recently was inspired to finish the job. I have new pistons and cylinders coming later today. Basically a Porsche 914 motor. Here's what I've got so far: I drove her over 225K miles on raggedy front seats that regularly chewed holes in my clothing. Bought new covers in '03 that sat around until I found someone this year who knew how to do it right: My Dad, who passed 5 years ago, owned a red one just like it that I learned on. Mom passed 4 months ago and I've had time and money to play with. She brought a '56 Beetle back from Europe before they were married. This is us: Peaces my friends! I feel more like I do now than I did when I came here.

Almost takes me back to a series of split-screens that I owned and drove around Australia in the 60's & 70's.. ...the sound and smell will be with me for life! ...let alone the back pain from those front seats... One of the most memorable was a double-cab pickup...if only they hadn't all left me by the time people thought they were worth Megabux, I could now have a room full of '54 Strats ...the consolation is that THIS is a great place to be! ...long live NUTZ and all who sail in her ....even sumgai !

Hey cooltoneI'm really glad you and leadfingers took a few moments to post. There have been heap a lot of Alumni who have logged on and it's nice even just to see the names pop up. I hope some of them will drop a quick line just to say hello. Maybe they're just waiting for the weekend when we put the imaginary hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.

Thanks for stopping by Double Yoi ! Last we heard from you, there was a Tele build happening. Did you ever finish that? Well after some trial and error with staining the cherry top, I did finish the build..The wiring, not so much. Its been a busy couple years with a cross country relocation and 2 long trips for work. I'm getting the itch to build again, guess I should finish that one first.

Yeah, moves really disrupt projects. All that packing/unpacking and wondering which of the many unpacked boxes have the things you need right now. Well after some trial and error with staining the cherry top, I did finish the build..The wiring, not so much. Build is the most time consuming part. If you need advice for the wiring, you might be able to find a good forum for that somewhere. lol

Well this happened yesterday: Emergency Situation at Superior RefineryIn this map, my house is about half way around the little green loop right under the "0" in "10 mile radius" When the evacuation order came out, I was already on my way to work at the hospital where they had implemented their MCI protocol. By the time I got out of work 8 hrs later the evac order was still in effect, but everything had calmed down. I spent some time with my father who lives northeast of the incident and refused to evacuate and the went home. And now apparently it's snowing in Duluth...

Heck... memories. My first overseas trip started with me arriving in Superior back in June 1994... after flying/in-transit from Melbourne for just shy of 30 hours, what with transit stops in Los Angeles and Minneapolis/St Paul... Arriving fairly late at night, I slept for 14 hours... and when I ventured outside into a bright, sunny day, I had to re-learn how to be a pedestrian... and to get used to looking for CrAzY drivers slipping 'round corners on my LEFT instead of my RIGHT.. let alone those ratbags doing a LEFT turn across an intersection. Yow! ...but it was one of the best holidays I had - and returned another 3 times in '95, '96 and 2000 (a map of all the towns I've visited to stay). The first time I met some of my boomerang-throwing/building mates I'd been corresponding with for 20+ years (using paper mail)... many Internet neophytes (some of us will remember chatting with uni folk using IRC in the early '90s ... and even via early e-mail using UUCP - anyone remember using waffle and/or FidoNet!?)... as well as many others... but I *still* didn't get to do all the tourist-y things (gotta get back to the USA to do that)... and I *certainly* didn't get *any* of the *good things* that were always advertised in the back of the comics..(!) Thanks to the NutzHouse, I now have quite a few more mates to catch-up with when I get back for an extended USA visit... eventually

Oz- We do maintain the G-Nutz network of informal B & Bs. Just ask asmith, who utilized it several years ago.
