Hi, Plucky- (I gave you the official welcome in your other thread ) No ideas on this. The catalog page does look like it. I see that there is a maple leaf logo next to it, which looks as if it might have some tiny text embedded? Perhaps enlarging that section could give a clue. Unless that is just a logo for Eaton's or whatever catalog it was ordered through. I see you are from Canada, so that might just be the store logo.

A bit of Google searching led me to some similar images which might help.

Thanks for your helpful reply. This is fascinating. Sterling Actions & Keys Ltd. Do you think this is the manufacturer of the harp or the writers of the Autoharp tutorial? Any clues as to a general decade when this harp might have been built? This surely is the same model as my harp. It even has the same tuning key with the capital letter 'G' on it. Once again, thanks!

I have no clue, plucky. The artwork on the autoharp manual is the same as on your autoharp, so that suggests a connection. But it doesn't define the connection. The manual might have been written by the maker of the autoharp. Or maybe a vendor who sold that model. Or less likely, just a publisher who just chose to use that particular unit as the basis of their book.
I would *guess* this is pre-WWII but I'm just using my gut on that one.

I did a little further research after these replies and managed to track down an auto harp for sale on Kijiji that said it was manufactured by the Rex Company of Toronto, Ontario. It also looked just like my autoharp, bridge, artwork and 10 bar layout. Later I found another photo of another identical, Rex autoharp that was said to be from the year 1925. I have never heard anything of the Rex Instrument Company and I have no idea how long they made this model. Wish I knew more about who Rex Co. was and what instruments they made.

Plucky, as I suggested in your other thread, you might try VintAxe. They don't specifically deal with autoharps, but maybe someone knows about Rex Instruments.

I did a google image search for Rex Autoharp and found that Kijiji listing. It's definitely the same model but I wouldn't call it identical. In relative terms, that one is junk compared to yours. You might want to check with PBS to see if The Antiques Roadshow will be anywhere near you soon. Or in Canada, check with The Great Canadian Roadshow. Just a thought.

Thanks so much for posting this! I was looking to identify my great grandmother’s autoharp. And it looks like this is it!

Thanks so much for posting this! I was looking to identify my great grandmother’s autoharp. And it looks like this is it! Thank you for taking the time to member-up and post that. Although we're focused on Guitar and Bass and associated gear, we're glad to help in all matters musical. Knowing that a discussion here helped someone else brings a smile to our faces. 😃
