I know this will be way beneath most of the complex problems on this board but I need some help. I screwed up the jack on my Peavey Unity Bass guitar. I found a replacement but it is a stereo jack (Three terminals instead of two). First: Will it work? Second: Which terminal do I leave vacant or do I connect the red wire to both channels. Third: It's obvious I am new to the repair thing so keep it simple.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Jeryl

See the one metal tab that touches the tip of the plug? This is the one you want to connect with the center wire. See the tab that touches the other part of the plug's shaft? That is the Ring connector and you do not want to connect that one. Connect your braid/shield to the other solder lug not already mentioned. This is your "ground" or shield. Stereo plugs are TRS, or Tip/Ring/Sleeve. Standard guitar cords are Tip/Sleeve. Here's a quick hatchet job I did with an image off the web. I don't have a jack in front of me so the tabs might not be exactly correct, but the principle should be the same. In the above, your "hot" will be the red tab. (You can see how the tab fits between the layers of wafers by following the red line.) Do not use the yellow one; blue is your ground/common. Hope that helps, Dean

Dean, that was pretty neat. That image and explanation may save me some heartburn with a project some day. You get a +1. And to JerylG, -- Doug C.
