I'm interested in the safety modifications discussed on the Guitarnuts1 site but I can't find metal film capacitors with this rating locally (radio shack is the only choice out here). Any suggestions for a mail order source?

cab32, Digikey and Mouser Electronics are my two main sources. JDR Microdevices might also work for you, I've used them before too. Edit:Added three more sources, sorry 'bout forgetting them in the first place. Jameco, All Electronics, and Futurlec. Of the three, I have used Jameco many times, but their website is getting more and more atrocious to use. Ugh. Still, worth a try for some parts. /editIn cases like this, Google is your friend. There are lots of possible sources, you might even try eBay Stores, sometimes you run across some pretty good deals, other times there may be no savings, but the vendor is the only one around that has what you want. Howsomever, if you are desparate, or in a hurry, you could wire up three of those 0.1mfd/250V caps. (The RS part/catalog number is 272-1055.) The voltage rating is low for what J. Atchley suggests, but in actuallity, it will still protect you. If there's a fault though, don't keep hammering it over and over - under repeated stress conditions, that combination won't last very long. HTH sumgai

Thanks for the info. Checked out all your recommendations. Turns out that the best deal when shipping for small orders is considered was with a seller on ebay. working slowly on this project.

I've been seriously considering acting as a source for these caps. I have a supply nearby, and cheap too. I'd be willing to do it for the actual cost and shipping. Real cheap.

Chesh,
Even so, it's still expensive and instance related. I might suggest that you build up a parts kit related to this project or in general that has the most needed common items for the rewiring afflicted (tone cap selection, a couple/few pots, a couple of switches, the volume mod components, the stuff easily broken or lost, etc.).
You know, the stuff that we'all need, but put off 'cause of shipping.
I think that a kit(s) of $10 plus S&H (?$5) and maybe $20 as well would be good.

I know, but for $0.50 plus shipping (?$2-4), I'd order 10 caps just to spread out the shipping. I have more than 10 guitars anyway.
When I bot the Fender blend(er) pots, I could get one for $3.00 and the other for $6.00. The dealer said that I'd have to wait for his regular Fender order 'cuz he wouldn't get just this shipped (or I'd have to pay).
I ordered 10 of the $3.00 ones and 5 of the $6.00 ones and he ate the shipping. Please note that most blend post are $8 to $12 individually (and they aren't really what I wanted).

Well, I was just thinking along the lines of mailing it, for, what, $0.50? I could probably do a proper job of mailing it in a padded envelope. I'm debating it. Chesh
