No idea, doc. But most mfrs will post a data sheet of their products which should elucidate any differences.

thedoc735 , I went to take a look at those spec sheets...... Funny thing, the first 55 or 60 results from Bingle want me to visit either MojoTone, Sweetwater, AllParts, etc, etc, yadda yadda, you get my drift. Finally, way down the list, I get a link to CTS itself. Which pretty much immediately informs me that the part numbers in your post are Vendor numbers, not CTS numbers. Searching around took awhile, but yes, there's only one part of that description available from CTS, and you're looking at the same thing from two retail vendors. So what I can tell you definitively is that the only difference between them is about 5¢ - your choice of which vendor you like. Allparts (your first link) is $8.95, MojoTone has it for $9 smackers. Cost of shipping, time to arrive at your place, etc. those and other factors will color your decision, I'm sure. HTH sumgai

i would've placed the difference at a couple bucks but what's five cents here or there?
that being said, if one has both the desire and capital to order in the 1000s cts (and probably bourns, alpha too) will make just about whatever pot you desire, so there's always the *possibility* that a certain retailer may carry their own special taper pots. that makes for good ad copy though so I'd expect it being mentioned it's a lot more likely that they're just the same off the shelf part

I can't find any link to any actual mention of them on the CTS site, nor if I search for what the pots actually have stamped into them, though I got mine from WDMusic(UK) - "450s3960" -- Short shaft 250k
- "450s3963" -- Short shaft 500k
- "450s3965" -- Long shaft 500k
But regarding MojoTone, they invoked my rancour when they said this about the taper of these potentiometers over on TGP: I had the pots made with a custom taper and a tight tolerance. Not a standard 10% audio taper and not a vintage 30% taper either. I won't say because all it does is draw false conclusions for those who haven't actually tried them.

HTH sumgai hi, the first MPN (EP-5586-000) is what has been stamped on my version of that pot! Are you saying that the shops stamp their own numbers on those pots and that it is not a manufactures part number? I was going to get the other one (W3500002) if there was some spec. difference, so that I could compare by ear, but if they are the same there would be no point at all.

Yes I have also read that the mojotone is not the same as the standard CTS version and has a special custom taper, that's why I wanted to try it out, but can't find the different spec. sheets, and so I thought I would ask to see if anyone on here had the information or experience.

Yogi and 'doc, It turns out that CTS does make this particular part in several different tapers. This is a link to the PDF for that component, take a look at Pg 3: Different tapers for the CTS 450 series pots
Whether or not those different tapers are available for other pots in their line, I dunno. And when I typed the Allparts number (actually, I just copied/pasted it) into the CTS search box, it came up with bupkis. sumgai

the first MPN (EP-5586-000) is what has been stamped on my version of that pot! Are you saying that the shops stamp their own numbers on those pots and that it is not a manufactures part number? CTS will probably stamp the number, but I presume their customers can ask what for what they want. Looking at CrazyParts.de "TVT" & "SVT" pots with the "450S____" numbering (e.g. this one) it's worth noting they have "CP" stamped into them before the pot's value and date code, showing that CTS definitely offer at least some customisation of the stamped text. It may also be worth reading what ToneShapers have to say about ordering CTS pots. Now, looking further around the web for the CTS push/pulls: The images on Electronica Baile (who claim the parts they are selling are from MojoTone) correspond to the stamped numbers of WD Music ( 450S3960, 450S3963 & 450S3965). Sweetwater also claim to be selling Mojo Tone parts, but their images show a different set of numbers: 250k Short Shaft - 450S3880, 500k Short Shaft - 450S3879 & 500k Long Shaft - 450S3914. The listings on TubeAmpDoctor have no mention of Mojo Tone, yet share part numbers with those from Sweetwater: 250k Short Shaft - 450S3880, 500k Short Shaft - 450S3879 & 500k Long Shaft - 450S3914In the third image of this Reverb listing of Mojo Tone parts you can just make out the "450S3914" number which corresponds to the Sweetwater/TAD numbers. Finally, there's also StewMac who have their own versions with yet another set of part numbers and only ±10% tolerance (the rest claim to be ±7%), but are the only place I've seen that produce smooth/solid-shaft versions: 250k Short Knurled Shaft - 450S3908, 250k Short Smooth Shaft - 450S3909, 500k Short Knurled Shaft - 450S3910, 500k Short Smooth Shaft - 450S3911 & 500K Long Knurled Shaft - 450S912.
It could be possible that the discrepancy in part numbers of those claiming to be MojoTone parts may be due MT themselves changing their specifications, however the date codes overlap: TAD shows one pots dated 52 nd week of 2014 and 22 nd week of 2015, Sweetwater (with the same part numbers) are dated with 14 th & 35 th weeks of 2016 and 31 st week of 2017 -- Whereas the differently labelled EB pots are dated 23 rd & 27 th weeks of 2016.
For what it's worth, probing the pots I have to hand (both 450S3965 dated 22 nd week of 2019) they are a normal 10% taper, but seem to give better control at the outer limits of rotation than some other CTS pots. That is, others sometimes stick to their minimum value until "1" and reach their maximum value at "9", by comparison the range of resistance on these seems better spread out across the entire rotational range from "0" to "10".
