would it be possible to fix these? The jack thingy snapped in half . Son wasn’t too happy as he paid a bit of money for these headphones . He has them for a while tho and they are getting repetitively plugged and unplugged .

Yeah that’s the right way to do it. You could just hack the end off any other 1/8” TRS and twist the wires together and tape them off.

Now that I’ve actually watched it, there’s a couple things.
1) Use the little plastic sleeve! Why would you prefer the nasty sticky mess that electrical tape makes?!?
B) Unless the original is completely screwed, you should be able to use your meter to figure which wire goes to which part of the plug, and you can definitely verify the contacts on the new part. Dude’s like “oh just swap the wires around” as though desoldering and resoldering is a simple foolproof procedure. IRL, it’s not. Do your best to do it right the first time.
Appendix - Even with a broken plug, I really prefer to leave at least a bit of wire “tail” when I hack them off like that. If you snip it right at a molded jack like they did, you’ll have a hell of a time trying to do that meter test I talked about.
