Why Dooes Volume cut out at about the "5" setting?

I am considering buying an electric guitar from a neighbor.  I do not have a brand name on it.

It sounds pretty good.  Except the volume only works from the 10 setting down to about 5, then it is silent.  It seems to have a good loud volume at 10.  Then as I turn the volume knob the volume goes down and down and by the time it gets to 5 it is almost completely silent, and at 4 it is completely silent.  So the volume is cutting out too soon.  What is the likely fix for this?

It just sounds like you need to get the volume control  cleaned. Often debris or dust can accumulate there and kill the signal. It is easy to do - you open up the electronics cavity and spray cleaner into the control that is dirty (all of them probably need it) and turn it back and forth to dislodge whatever is there.
