Even if you weren't alive during the '60s, you've surely heard Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys.
Recently I stumbled across a rendition of this song by Wilson Phillips (Carnie and Wendy Wilson, daughters of Brian Wilson; and Chynna Phillips, daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas)

most mainstream use of a theremin? Technically, the Beach Boys' version uses an Electro-Theremin. Same concept but the pitch and volume are controlled by potentiometers rather than by antennae. Close enough, right. I guess from your focus on the theremin, you weren't as stunned by the vocal harmonies in the Wilson Phillips version as I was?

I think Brian Wilson is a genius, and I'm sure many people agree. His harmonies are some of the very best, so lush and complex while still maintaining a natural innocence. I remember seeing an interview where he said he learned every single Four Freshmen song.
Thanks for sharing that acapella version, they did a great job.

I love their harmonies... didn’t know they existed. 'They' ... meaning Wilson Phillips? You might have heard some of their work but didn't know them by name. They had a few #1 hits on the pop charts in 1990. Most notably Hold on

Thanks for sharing that acapella version, they did a great job. When we consider the time the song (actually more of a symphony) was written (1966) it's impressively complex. Brian Wilson and the Beatles were the two forces driving rock into territory that no one else would have dreamed of. But as impressive as the original was, it had a somewhat dense texture. The vocal arrangement written by Carnie is open and airy. I prefer that even to the original. She took that song to another level. I love every minute of it and when they sing the final chord it leaves me wanting for more.

Perhaps due to not listening to current radio starting in the early 90s. The Beach Boys are about as familiar to me as both the Beatles and my ears.
