Happy Sunday Night Boys, I just got done putting down a new piece of drop cloth on my bench and thought maybe some of us out there that are soldering might benefit from this tip. I use canvas drop cloth (used for painting) under my soldering area. I use it to clean my tip after every solder. Just solder and roll the tip on the flat canvas. It’s the perfect material to clean tips. I just lay a 12”x 18” square piece flat on my bench, put my third arm setup and I’m ready to go. A piece will last a considerable amount of time. When it’s dirty, just cut off another piece and you’re set!! I use canvas drop cloth that I buy at Walmart. A 6’x9’ drop cloth costs $9.69 USD (£6.98,€ 7.99, 12.48 Australian). Of course you don’t want to leave a hot soldering iron directly on it!!

You actually shouldn't clean the tip after soldering, unless you put fresh solder on after that. Clean the tip before soldering.

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Solder, wipe, new solder. I also use Tippy and dip my tip it it every 5th time. The tip lasts forever.
