so i picked up a cheap pbass to put some love in. pickup dcr is 7k6 which seems awful low for a pbass (generally 10-11k)... I'm guessing they used fewer turns of thicker wire? measured inductance at 4.12H (generally 5-7H) so maybe not? before tearing the bass apart i did plug it in and it did work, more of a dubby low frequency sound but could've been old dead strings anyway, what can be gleaned from these numbers?

The inductance is closer to Jazz Bass territory.

i have the bass back together and it definitely doesn't lack brightness with new 250k pots. the tone and volume control sweeps are quite different from the other p basses I've had. tone control has very little difference for most of the pot's travel and that's with having tried both linear and log pots (i'm wondering if this is because I've wired the cap between volume pot and tone pot with the tone pot lug grounded instead of volume pot connected to tone pot with capacitor between the other lug and ground... did this mostly for aesthetic purposes)

I don't think the position of the cap there would make any difference. Is it the same thing with either a log or linear pot? Would be odd if you didn't notice any difference between the 2 types. And, what size cap are you using?

100nf. might have to drop it to a more normal ~50nf (think i have a 56nf floating around somewhere)
