What are my options? Right now I've just got one push/pull pot in the axe, but I've got all new components coming in. I've got it wired up right now for a vol/tone & coil split. I like the way the coil split sounds, it cleans up everything perfectly for good cleans & some more jagged/biting rythms. I want to try out different things with series/parallel switches & I don't really like phase switches, don't have a use for them.
Are there any crazy setups I'm not thinking about as possibilities? I can see just a few...
Vol, Tone/ series/parallel on each pickup Vol, tone/ coil split & series parallel between the pickups Vol, tone/ coil split & ser/par on one pickup. vol, tone/ ser/par on one pickup AND between the pickups. Vol, tone/ inner & outer coils
Not sure where else I can go with this. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards coil split & ser/par between pups, but I need to wire it up with those options and hear it.
And no I can't add any extra components or get larger switches (I just paid for all these and I can only get these things online). I don't have any way to do any sort of routing on my body. Oh and both my pickups are 4conductor.
Thanks. PFC Wells

Here's another:
- One push-pull splits both pups to give outer-coils - The other push-pull splits both pups to give the inner-coils - When both push-pulls are pulled out each pickup is in parallel with it self.
But no opportunity to have the pups in series with each other...
Unless...
You get rid of the three-way toggle.
Have a separate volume for each pickup and no tone controls, so you twiddle the volumes to select pups.
And wire the volumes so that when both are turned to zero you have both pups in series...

Hastings, i like the direction you are going with the inner/outer/parallel idea. i did something similar here: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=wiring&thread=1130172881&post=1130287410you won't be able to do it with as much finesse, you'll have to handle both pickups with each switch. but it is do-able. if you do inners and outers, the pickups should be pointed in the same direction (pole-pieces), so you'll have one north and one south when split. that will maintain hum-cancelling. you can put 2 HBs in series with a 3-way. BUT, it creates a "hole". for instance, if you switch the bridge in series "under" the neck, you will have the series combo in the neck and the neck+bridge positions of the 3-way. in the bridge position of the 3-way, you get NO CONNECTION. the only way to avoid that is to use a 3PDT for the series switch. so, given the limitations Moloch mentioned, you were quite accurate in saying no opportunity. too bad he can't drill a hole near his volume and tone, and put a 3PDT mini-toggle in there. between your idea for the 2 push-pulls, and a system series switch, that would be quite a monster. unk

Cool, thanks for the ideas. I don't really like to have do more than one thing to select one pickup or the other...so the switch stays =P. Also, I wired up the existing push/pull to ser/par the neck pup, and it nails the tone I wanted out the switch beautifully. So I think what I'm going to try when I get the other one is wiring each pup to a ser/par switch. If I find that I don't like how the bridge sounds I'll go somewhere different from there.
Again, thanks for the ideas.
