kar, Hi, and lemme be the first to you to these forums! Your simple question raises others! What we need to know from you is: What do you want these pickup to do? There is a world of possiblities here - you can hook up the EMG in series, parallel, in phase and out of phase, and that's just within that one pickup. When you add the DiMarzio, you can get those options all over again! You also need to think about the switching apparatus itself. Do you have any switches now, besides the standard Strat-style blade switch used to select the pickups? (You did say "strat project", so I'm assuming that you're molesting an existing Strat or clone, right?) Are mini-toggles acceptable to you, or how about push-pull switches under the pots? Things like this should be decided up front, because for every member here on the GuitarNutz2 forum, there are that many different drawing styles! Most of us will present you with a layout drawing that depicts the switches as you see them in real life, only a few members here are like me, and prefer to use old-world schematics. Fortunately for us, you are using the passive version of EMG's 81, so we don't have to worry about batteries. But have you also factored in the cavity shielding? If not, let me point you right now to our progenitor site, specifically to what we affectionately call "Quieting the Beast". And last but not least, don't let us do your homework for you..... check out the many posts containing schematics and drawings in this forum, and in the sub-forum, Schematics. Those are finished products that are yours for the taking, if they suit your needs. But if you don't see anyhing here that works for you, then just give a holler! ;D HTH! sumgai

Haha, thats almost overwhelming =P I'm just going go with the simple answer and assume that you just want a standard 1vol 1tone 3way setup. Just go to www.guitarelectronics.com, click on guitar & bass wiring. From there click on color codes, scroll down past the table that has a bunch of starts & finishes. Look for DiMarzio & EMG (they're probably in seperate boxes). These little diagrams will tell you which wire is which. From here all you have to do is solder the series link of each pickup together, solder the hot output of each pickup to the proper switch position, and solder the Green & bare wires together and ground them. Voila, you're done. If you still need to connect your tone & vol into the circuit...The wire from the output jack goes on the middle terminal of the vol, you ground out one side of the volume pot and a wire going to the tone goes on the other side. There is also a wire going to the switch on the same terminal as the one going to the tone. Ah, forgot, on that same www.guitarelectronics.com site, go to universal wiring and then scroll down and find whatever setup it is you have. In their schematics the wires are ordered pretty much the same as they are in the color codes diagram. So the top wire is hot, the middle two are the series link & the bottom is ground. Simple.

Thanks for your fast reply .Two separate volume and one tone will be ok , as I like to get original pick up sound plus a mix of them: I will like to have them with a 3 or 5 switch toggle and also I have a couple of mini switches if needed .All of your suggestion welcome. This is a Strat clone project .I already checked a couple of sites for wiring ,but I cannot find any posts about the DiMarzio 2 wires +hearth Humbuckers (black and white cables ) so I am looking for assistance. For cavity shelding I have an alluminium adesive tape ( I did use this tape in my old job ,to shield computer servers components. If this is not suitable ,just tell me , and I will find copper tape . All your help welcome. Thanks . Roberto
