Last year, I put up a year-end "Vote for the Best of 2008" contest. This was not well subscribed by the members, with only a few entries.
I also still owe the winners prizes! (I promise, Flateric, it's coming!)
So, this year, I thought we'd do something different, and hopefully more will participate . . .
For 2009, there will be a G-Nutz trivia quiz! With a yet-to-be-determined prize for the winner!
Here's how it will work. The quiz will be posted by me, on 11/11/2009, at 11:11pm EST. It will be open to all G-Nutz2 members who have registered before that date. The Administrators, SG and I, are ineligible.
Quiz answers must be PM'd to me no later than 12/7/2009 at 12:00 noon. Please number your answers to correspond to the questions.
There is one point given for each correct answer. There will be 20 (EDIT: 25) questions. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the date/time of the PM to me, earliest first. So, speed does count for something.
The quiz is being designed so that answers will not be easily googleable. The questions will test knowledge of guitar playing, guitar wiring and diagrams, guitar history, guitar music and guitarists.
I am not anticipating that anyone will get a perfect score on this. Don't be intimidated if you don't know all or even most of the questions- no one else may, either!
And, BTW, you'll need to have a guitar handy to answer some of the questions.
So, everyone mark their calendars for 11/11/09, when the quiz goes up, right here in the Coffee Shop, for all to see!

And a bit more:
If you submit your answers, but later decide you can do better, you are welcome to submit a second entry- but doing so will withdraw your earlier entry, and the date/time of your second entry will be your official submission time. Only one final entry per member.
Any disputes over the answers will be decided in the sole discretion of the judges- SG and I.
And I sure hope our oversea members participate, but if you win the prize, you will be solely responsible for payment of any duty, importation fees, customs charges, or other excises as may be required by your particular jurisdiction. Value of prize estimated at $35 US.

Folks, I've seen some of these so-called questions - they'd make a lawyer blush! ;D newey has shown me that I'm not all that high-and-mighty, there are several questions that I've failed to get right! 'Struth! You've been warned, so start boning up on what you think might appear on the test. And good luck! sumgai

I work in IT...all test answers are purchasable...
And you did give us a reasonable amount of time to have our answers Googled carefully thought out and researched.
This is where we all find out if we've been paying attention to the board... And that's a clever inverted touch using the Armistice as a kickoff and Pearl Harbor Day as a finish.
This should be fun.

Ah, yes, you noticed that! You should do well on the quiz. It's all about entering the mind of Newey. Scary stuff, really.

The questions are set, 25 in number. In 4 days time, I'll post the quiz in a separate thread, right above this one. The quiz thread will be locked.
Everyone is on his or her honor to not post answers as we go along- and you might well be helping someone else beat you to the prize anyway!
You should list your answers from 1 to 25, and PM your responses to me. Please put your username and "Quiz Answers" in the title line of your PM to me, e.g., "Joe's Quiz Answers".
Answers submitted after 12/07/2009 at noon EST are late and ineligible. As previously stated, one "final answer" per username.
The questions will seem tough at first glance, but all are, I think, fair game around here. And there are some hints embedded in the questions themselves. . .
No additional hints or help will be given by SG or me, so don't bother PMing us with questions. SG has been given a copy of the answer key in advance so no one can say I changed 'em as it went along.
After 12/7/09, I will post the scores, answers, and winner. Save any whining about a question being wrong or unfair until then.
I hope you all will participate. May the Nutziest man win!

Aww, I just now noticed this! But after giving it a good look, I only know three of them haha ;D (8,11,12). The rest I'd have to cheat to answer! Good luck guys!

cma-
If you can figure out a way to "cheat", have at it!
The posted rules do not outlaw googling, PMing your buddies, or other collaboration. Just don't post suspected answers on the board, that's all I ask.
I'd say three right off the top of your head is pretty good. Can't win if'n you don't play!

Not to brag or anything, but I am confident that I have now answered ALL of the questions incorrectly!
I have submitted all of my incorrect answers to the quiz, and suggest everyone do the same.
Crazyman - you've got me beat already.

Man, that was tough...last time I took a test I still had all my hair...
Next time can we have a bass run in the name that tune section?
Very good little quiz.
Good job newey.
Good luck to all contestants.

Damn, now I can't use "Roundabout" next year. It'll have to be "Radar Love" instead . . . ;D

Ash - congratulations, dude! Now, would you please hurry and get to 1,000 posts so that at least one so-called "Mod God" actually knows something? D2o P.S. Thanks again, newey!

I guess I didn't say it in an open post, but this was a lot of fun, and a great idea on newey's part. I'm pretty surprised to have actually won. I was pretty confident in most of my answers, but expected tough competition, and posted very late.
I would have done this even without a prize, but...
Yesterday I received what appears to be a brand new Danelectro Cool Cat Drive pedal! I've heard very good things about these, and can't wait to run it through it's paces. Unfortunately it'll have to wait till next week, though.
I definitely owe this win to the other members of this board (both active and non) who have shared their knowledge over the few years I've been around. I'm keeping the pedal though.
Thanks to newey and everybody else!

Congrats to Ash and I hope you enjoy the pedal! I'm also impressed that the USPS got it to Ash on Monday, since I only mailed it Saturday. I hadn't even got around to PMing the tracking number to Ash yet! I got a lot of jollies out of drawing this up, it was tough to work up questions that weren't so obscure as to be unfair, but yet weren't easily searchable or obvious. I think it worked out pretty well, since every question was answered correctly by someone *, but no one got them all. And thanks on my end to Sumgai, who tolerated a 3 week PM onslaught from me, and gave valuable correction and input, as well as providing a few of the questions (the Mustang switch question, for example, was all SG's doing). We'll definitely do this again next year. Now I have all year to come up with questions . . .MUAHAHAHA! *Oops, I misspoke. No one spotted Fred Gretsch, Jr. Maybe that one was a little too obscure.

Finally got a chance to mess around with the Cool Cat, and I can say that is quite cool. It actually sounds pretty good all by itself going into a solid-state amp, which is a tall order for a stompbox. To christen the thing, and "demo" it for you, I recorded a song and ran everything through it - including the drums! I also managed to use every one of my electrics. I didn't spend a lot of time on it. Started about 22:00 last night and recorded 4 guitars, 2 basses, and drums. The drums could use some work, and it's all a bit rough, but it was a lot of fun. Lorenzo's Tractor - Cool Cat DemoCan you name the song? It's a cover that I play occasionally with Circadian Nations, but this definitely does not represent our version of it.

Glad that you like the pedal, Ash!
And, no, I can't name that tune, but I keep thinking it ought to be on the tip of my tongue. But a nice "virtual jam" anyway!
The Feelies, maybe?

"Gee Dick, I like it. I'll give it an 85 because it's got a beat to it that I can dance to!"
This Marine smells the distinct odor of The Ramones in there somewhere!

"Gee Dick, I like it. I'll give it an 85 because it's got a beat to it that I can dance to!" This could be any one of dozens of meticulously pre-screened teenagers from years of American Bandstand. It most definitely isn't Marilyn Manson. I can't give you the chapter and verse, but it sounds like something from Neal Stephenson. Best guess...which explains most of my quiz answers...
