HMMM. g-wir.com/index.htmlSome time ago, in a discussion of Santellan's venture, I mentioned the idea of a hinged section of a Strat pickguard for accessing the electronics. And some time ago, ChrisK and Sumgai discussed the possibility of using digital controllers for guitar switching. This seems to be what's going on here. Whether the flashing buttons would be annoying after a while, and whether this sort of mode-driven digital switching is any improvement on good old electromechanics I open for reader discussion. Here's the patent: www.patentstorm.us/patents/7521628.html

I can hear it now.... 1 st Lawyer - "I can break that patent in 5 words!" 2 nd Lawyer - "Well, I can break it in 4 words." 3 rd Lawyer - "Oh yeah? Well, I can break it in just three words." OK, what're the three words? "Already been done!" This is so, errr.... patently obvious that there's no way the patent examiner was awake when he (she?) was rubber-stamping the application document. Not to mention, it does nothing in a unique manner, nor does it reveal anything that hasn't already been known to the general (guitar playing) public for some years. Indeed, digital controllers were instituted, albeit not successfully in the commercial market, many years ago. I wonder just how long this will last...... (Almost edit, remembered just in time!) I wonder how Harvey Starr, maker of the Ztar, feels about this. sumgai
