I'm not exactly relaying breaking news...this happened about a year ago, buy Yngwie Malmstten has dropped his relationship with DiMarzio and gone over to Seymour Duncan.
This may fall into the "yeah, but yawn" category, but to me this was a surprise. This was a long term relationship from a musician that actually works on his own guitars and was heavily involved in the DiMarzio take on the YJM pickup.
I've never been a metal or shred kind of fan, but this guy has always been impressive in my humble opinion.
Say what you want about the guy, but how many metal guitarists have the balls to do this:
Just thought I'd share this...and if you liked the orchestra video there are about a dozen of them on youtube...if not, then nevermind...
Happy Trails

I saw this when he switched. I think the big deal is that Fender and SD hold each others hands, and Mr. YJM wanted good puppies in his signature guitars. Maybe I'm just jaded, but it seems like its either that or a money issue.

You suppose? DM pickups aren't inferior to SD, and any pickup company would have wound his sets however he wanted them. But SD has a bigger market share, and thus, can bring a bigger checkbook to the party. . .

When I said he wanted good pickups in his signature guitars, I was refering to the fact that Fender and SD are like highschool BFF's. I'm sure that Fender didn't want to put DM puppies in their guitars...

IJWS- Hate to disagree with you, but while Fender and SD may be dating, they're also seeing other people . . . The Yngwie signature Strat has his DiMarzios- or at least it did, don't know if they're changing it now that he's switched. The Custom Shop will even do you one that's just as road-battered as Malmsteen's- and charge you over 12 large for the privilege! It has Dimarzios: Custom Shop Yngwie Strat
AFAIK, this is the most expensive regularly-listed model Fender makes. The Dave Murray Signature Edition, which is a HSH based on Dave's '57 (which he got from Paul Kossoff) also has 2 DM HBs. There are probably other examples as well. Fender has the market clout to put whatever they want on their guitars, and SD doesn't have the ability to tell them no- SD is probably just happy to have some portion of the Fender business.

I like your argument. I understand what you mean. I didn't realize that Fender ever used DM's in their guitars. I've only ever seen Lace, SD, and their own.

I think malmsteen could put a cold cat poo in the neck and bridge position and some how make it sound good, his tone and technique are first note recognizable. should be a sweet combo tho.
