Another quick Q: Having only a couple of 250k pots spare at the moment to slot into my new project guitar body, are they likely to let down the tone of the instrument compared to 500k pots? I'm using hot hex humbuckers from GFS, the guitar is a singlecut solid body mahogany, maple cap. Can I get away with the 250k's? My understanding is the 250k's are a little less bright to take the sharp edge off thin and trebly single coil pickups, and 500k's will add back a little treble to otherwise muddy, bassy humbuckers.

eric,
Your understanding is correct. You can use the 250kΩ pots, but they well give you a bit less high-end, comparatively speaking.

It's taken a while to finish off this build, but its finally completed tonight and wired up as per the McCarty-esque diagram kindly posted. Big thanks for the guidance, the electrics work great, no noise, 6 really good usable tones, the mini toggle switch replaces the push-pull pot, and it's great to use as a boost switch too, giving a nice jangly edge for rhythm work or full warm volume for lead.
