hey guys, in my LP special, it is set up a/ 1 vol, coil taps for each, phase(push/ pull w/ vol) and the pup selector.
when i put the push/pull in and check the reading on the multi-meter, it reads 0.00. However, if the push pull is pulled out of the guitar and hanging out of the back cavity, the readings are fine.....
what am i over looking? any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks,
Tyler

I'm confused.
You indicate one vol pot w/ a push pull for phase.
You indicate "coil taps for each". Are these separate switches?
What is the pickup wire (lead) count from each? Better yet, what pickups are they?
Are the pickups only combined in parallel?
More info, please.
Do you have a wiring diagram (schematic spoken here).
I assume that the volume pot is "going along for the ride as well".
Is it possible that the ground connection for the volume pot is dependent on contact with any shielding in the cavity?

Tyler, ............ Is it possible that the ground connection for the volume pot is dependent on contact with any shielding in the cavity? Or equally as bad, that the rest of your wiring setup is dependent on not contacting the shielding material, and in fact, that's what's happening when everything is assembled? You're probably looking at an unintentional short between two points when assembled, and it goes away when dis-assembled. Carefully inspect all clearances as you slowly re-assemble your LP. If this seems impossible, I'm sure more than one or two of us can dream up a trick or two ......... but I wanna give you a chance to exercise your troubleshooting talents, first. ;D HTH sumgai

Chris, Sorry for being unclear. here is a diagram. SG, all of the hot lugs are covered in heat shrink(with exception of the push pull), just for the reason of not wanting the shielding to not short out my circuit. it has to be in the pot, so im working with my multimeter to figure out what/where. The wiring diagram looks fine to me.
I assume that this is across the output jack. What range are you using on the multi-meter?
How many Ohms is "fine"?
What is the pot resistance end to end?

CK,
alright, on my 20k setting the ciruit is reading about 12.
im assuming you mean value of the pot? its a 500k.

I assume that 12 K Ohms is for each pickup individually.
I presume that this means that the pp pot is put into the body only, and not that the attached switch is pushed into the pushed in position while in the body.
I'd look for a short induced when the pp pot is in-body.
The digital pics would still help.
