...... EDIT:And Chris is on his third avatar of the day. I believe that may be a new record. Well, avatars are rather low voltage, so his experimenting prolly won't kill him.

The AmStd Strat pickups are; Bridge - North Middle - South Neck - North The trick of swapping the neck and middle pickups may be of use depending on the switching combinations used. I've thought of using a small SP5T rotary switch to separately select the pickup combinations for the modeling. This would free up the fourth pole on the super switch and decouple the passive selections from the active ones. Furthermore, a SP3T Center-ON mini-toggle switch could select passive/both/modeled for the output. This, of course, infers that some series resistance must be used for the modeled output to enable passive blending with the passive pickups. Adding passive elements to the active modeled output does enable tone tuning with RCL components, without impacting the generators (pickups), which occurs in passive guitar electronics. Assuming that the active output impedance is quite low, one could indeed tailor the output frequency spectrum with said passive LCR components and still have significant drive to decouple the effects of the cable crapacitance. One could also set different output levels for the models to overcome the "Fender feature" (Fupidity) of all models having the same output level. Of course, to be fair, a constant output level will help eradicate that amplifier-abusive practice started by Gibson's excessive output levels that led to a whole generation of generations thinking that they could forever get away with overdriving amplifiers. While a small rotary switch could be used to select different combinations for the lever switch, a three pole rotary would only realize 15 combinations when used with a 5-way lever super switch. There are 17 possible combinations sans phase for three disparate coils. (H/C)= Hum Canceling The standard selections are popular; 1. Bridge 2. Bridge||Middle (H/C) 3. Middle 4. Middle||Neck (H/C) 5. Neck I like these (MR smiles); 1. Bridge 2. Bridge||Middle (H/C) 3. Bridge||Neck 4. Middle||Neck (H/C) 5. Neck 1. Bridge||Middle||Neck (1/2 H/C) 2. Bridge*Middle (H/C) 3. Bridge*Neck 4. Middle*Neck (H/C) 5. Bridge*Middle*Neck (1/2 H/C) I also like these; Bridge*(Middle||Neck) (1/2 H/C) Bridge||(Middle*Neck) (1/2 H/C) Middle*(Bridge||Neck) (1/2 H/C) Middle||(Bridge*Neck) (1/2 H/C) Neck*(Middle||Bridge) (1/2 H/C) Neck||(Middle*Bridge) (1/2 H/C) I like the S-1 SSS series combo's; 1. Bridge 2. Bridge||Middle (H/C) 3. Middle 4. Middle||Neck (H/C) 5. Neck 1. Middle*Bridge (H/C) 2. Middle*(Bridge||special cap) (H/C) 3. Middle*(Bridge||Neck) (1/2 H/C) 4. Middle*(Neck||special cap) (H/C) 5. Middle*(Neck) (H/C) I like the AmStd S-1 HSS series combo's; 5-Position Blade and 2-Position Push/Push S-1™: S-1 Switch Up: Position 1. Full Bridge Coils in Series (H/C) Position 2. Middle||Inside Coil of Bridge (H/C) Position 3. Middle Position 4. Neck||Middle (H/C) Position 5. Neck S-1 Switch Down: Position 1. Full Bridge Coils in Series (H/C) Position 2. Full Bridge Coils in Series||Middle Pickup (1/2 H/C) Position 3. Full Bridge Coils in Series||(Neck*Middle) (H/C) Position 4. (Bridge Inside Coil*Neck)||Middle (1/2 H/C) Position 5. Middle*Neck Pickup (H/C) Heck, I like 'em all....but likely will go for an HSS set. Or, I could put a set of P-Rail pickups in. (Hmmm, maybe a PRSS setup.)

Since the P-rails is built to a HB form factor, this sounds like an easy plan to a wide palette. I note that SD makes the SD Triple Shot, which is a std HB mounting ring with 2 mini switches for binary tree switching of series/parallel/N coil/ S coil. This could make for a nice stealthy install on the P-rails, and leave other switching for other purposes. I hadn't seen these before on the SD website. I think it's a pretty slick idea, although "switch on the fly" capability is probably minimal.

They all are.
It's like "The Picture of Dorian Gray", where Chris stays the same, while his avatar becomes more grotesque . . . ;D ;D
EDIT: And since critters seem popular, guess I'll swap the pumpkin out after 18 months.

I'm not sure grotesque is the word...it may just be the cumulative effects of those pesky EMF's over the years... And if you can dump the pumpkin, I can toss Rasputin over the bridge... It's a Rockin' Horse...did I really need to saddle you with an explanation... He ain't much on solos, but he plays a mean slide...and no one rushes the mane stage when he's on...

Hmmm, meybe folks actually DO read this board and S.W.I.P.E. things. We may not get rich, we may not get famous (we may also avoid certain "industrial diseases" as well), but maybe we do have some influence on a better world guitar (that whole tremo'Leo effect).

I was looking at audio interfaces that support two high impedance (1 Meg Ohm) instrument channels that could be used as a digital oscilloscope for audio. I noticed that MF has the Tapco Link.FireWire 4x6 Audio Interface for $99.99 (just qualifies for free shipping).

I added a power jack to my VG Strat. I just soldered a wire to each small metal part just below the two contacts on the battery holder. I put a tiny notch in the battery cover to allow the wire to escape then added a $3.49 (overpriced at radio shack) connector. Now I can plug it into a DC powered wall wart and I don't need to worry about batteries. 4xAA batteries = 6 volts. I figured the VG would run on 5 volts to account for batteries becoming weak--and the only old wall wart I could find was 5v DC. It works very well. I'll probably clean it up with a solid black wire. If I get really brave I will run a jack into one of the other cavities in the guitar and make a permanent plugin jack on the back of one of the plastic plates then I wont have any loose wires showing. I will post other pics if anyone cares. It's been a long time since anyone posted here, so I figure I'm just a slow starter.

stewie- Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!No problem resurrecting an old thread, since your mod is certainly pertinent to the discussion. By all means, post some pictures! Sadly, I don't believe ChrisK ever got around to modifying his VG Strat. I think the VG was the last guitar he bought before his death. Short of permanently installing a power jack, you might want to consider using a mini-plug style of jack, as it would be less obtrusive coming out of the back. You could tape it off to the plastic cover with gaffer's tape.
