JH:
That 5-way Rotary we have played with also comes as 4P6pos for one extra selection.

Yes, you could have the parallel Oop setting to complete the set as a 6th option. But i think a more interesting option would be another series inphase setting, with an extra very small cap wired in somewhere to change the voice.

John allow me play Rune's Devil's advocate here.
i assume you're using the poles to connect to the pickups, and the throw are wired to get the single HB, series or parallel connection that you want.
but wouldn't it still be possible to get a single coil from each HB, in a parallel combo?
that might require some nasty PRS style coil shunting, maybe even some "hanging from hot". but it could be done.
(seems so weird to be on this side of the conversation!)

last thought before post:
since one of the pickups could have a permanent ground connection, that would leave an extra pole.
so i think a pair of singles would be possible, cleanly!

Thats OK Unk - what Im thinking has system parallel between pups, by means of the rotary switch, but not local parallel for each pup. something has to give! So it could do a single from each pup, in parallel.
There's good hum cancelling, no hanging coils but probably one shunted coil. the shunted coil is a consequence of also wanting it to automatcally hum cancell in the Oop setting.
I have a scribbled sketch of this circuit. I'll pause before drawing it up further to see if the idea will fly

sound like good plan John,
it is always is a slow process for me, to start with a blank sheet of paper.
but i usually seem to have a knack, for finding a new wrinkle in something that's already started.
cheers!
