On the same topic of electrical shock and safe gigging... One of my guitar amps (polytone 2x12 combo) has a 3-prong electrical plug for power, BUT ALSO a 3-position power switch that goes "Normal Polarity -- OFF -- Reverse Polarity".
Is this an accident waiting to happen ?? I think yes. But give me your opinion. I assume I should rewire it so that only the "CORRECT" polarity is possible, in other words HOT on the wall plug feeds the HOT lead in the power supply, and COLD and GROUND on the wall plug feeds the power supply ground, circuit ground, and chassis ground. Correct ??

it's probably not as bad as you are imagining. before 3-wire power cords and grounded outlet, the norm was no direct connection from either power wire to the chassis. the polarity switch on a Fender, or 3-position power switches like you are describing, connected the chassis through a capacitor to one or the other wire of the power cord. those are truly scary. have it in the wrong position, and you get the "Fender kiss" when your lips touch a grounded microphone. even if you had it "right", the reference was the neutral. this could be several volts from true ground, and would cause a tingle if you touched true ground and your strings at the same time. the only way you will be able to cause any danger, is if you use a cheater plug, or connect to a non-grounded outlet. you'll know if you don't have a 3rd wire connection to your amp if you hear a noticeably louder hum in one of the 2 polarity selections. cheater plugs? just don't do it. non-grounded outlet? remember this: ...Oh, and one should still use an outlet tester before plugging in any gear at all, no matter what else he does to prevent shocks or other problems. ... 'nuff said. unk

One additional thing everyone should do from now on, is sing ONLY into the vocal mics that have those FOAM CONDOMS err... SOCKS... covering their grounded metal grilles.
And check the DC and AC voltage from guitar strings to true ground with a digital voltmeter before playing a gig !!!
And play in thick rubber platform boots like I do LOL
